Adding Cardio for Weight loss

46m trying to shed a few pounds. 5ft7, 166 lbs. Hit the gym every other day for compound lifts consisting mostly of bench, squats, press, dl, rows, dips. Goal is building muscle and maintaining strength but now realize I eat more than I can burn mostly to maintain muscle growth. I want to keep the heart healthy too though as I'm on statins and prediabetic. Also have some joint issues like gout and bunions...aging quickly!

I want to get back to running again but don't think it's efficient way to burn calories. How about adding stationary bike or rowing? Any good workout routines for my goals? Am I better off switching to HIIT? Worried I won't maintain strength by using lighter weights. I've found I need to lift fairly heavy (for my body type).

Running Shoes w Some Cushion Not Altra/Topo

46(m) used to wear Altras before they changed models to standard fit and went away from original fit. Most of their shoes that I like are trail oriented (Lone Peak, Superior) but the road runners have all these weird arch, stability guide rail gimmicks that squeeze my feet. I tried Topo, but I can't stand the toe curl that keeps my front toes floating upwards. I normally wear Lems for daily casual and hiking, Xero HFS or Lem Zen for weightlifting. Used to have vivos but their soles are too thin and not enough volume for me.

Looking for recommendations that fit the bill. Doesn't have to be completely zero drop but definitely needs to be wide in the forefoot, no toe curl, and more cushion for distance running. Really wish for Lone Peak fit but road runner treads.

Any Tips for Forgetfulness

Both in-laws, late 70s, live with me. It's a choice I accepted and agreed to, but looking for any tools and tips to help me keep my sanity. Garage door left open, sliding door not closed all the way, faucets left running etc. etc. I feel like if I bring it up, I'm being too nitpicky or anal about things. But if I don't, someone could rob me or my house can burn down if the stove is left on. I already have cameras and found I don't want to know half the shit that happens when I'm not home. I have water leak detectors also. They still drive, but mostly only local roads. I don't know what will happen once we have to take the keys away.
