Hail damage on hood and roof - total newbie with body work. Advice please?

Hi all,

This is my first visit to this sub, so go easy on me lol.

I have a 2024 Dodge Ram 2500 that got some hail damage last year. About 100 dents on the hood and another 100 on the roof. Possibly more.

I put in an insurance claim through state farm and of course they sent me to their preferred body shop which doesn't use OEM parts. Just slap an aftermarket hood on there and try to match the paint...and no idea what they'll do for the roof.

This is the nicest vehicle I've ever owned and my first new truck ever. 2500 laramie, cummins, and....air conditioned seats! Naturally, it's my baby and I want what's best for it.

A friend recommended paintless dent repair as he took his BMW that got damage from the same storm to a shop that does high end cars. He only had a couple small dings and my house got the worst.

Is PDR an option for hail damage on that scale?

I'm in Atlanta, GA if anyone has any PDR shop recommendations if it's something that is doable.

Thanks!

Oil Canning SUV Roof

How bad is it? A branch fell onto the roof of my car and caused a whole bunch of dents along with some oil canning. One shop said they’d have to remove the headliner and do electromagnetic induction (it’s oil canning in one spot). Curious if there is a less intrusive way to go about it.

My contribution to this sub

I made a post here a while back about the door of my ‘63 bug getting whacked. I asked “is it fixable”. I’ve had a lot of life things happen and I haven’t been able to properly fix it.

I do automotive paint and have experience in bodywork but not PDR. I’ve removed about 80% of the dent and I feel kind of proud of it. The strong pinches at the top and bottom of the door are beyond my comfort level though.

This is my contribution as most of this sub is filled with “Is this fixable”.

Need tool advice for a beginner

I’ve been doing paint and body for about 10 years. I want to start learning PDR with the hope of transitioning into it, but PDR tools aren’t cheap and I’m hesitant to put a bunch of money into tools upfront. I’m tempted to buy the harbor freight set and a cheap light board to just start learning on before I start investing in more professional grade tools, but I also feel like that could be a total waste of money.

I would love some advice on what tools are good enough to make some genuine progress learning on, while not breaking the bank. Sorry if this question is asked 100 times a day on the sub 😂

Autobody guy here, I need some tips from the pros

Im a 4th year autobody apprentice i did a somewhat in depth course on repair methods with the rods and glue pulling but mostly for the autobody side and focused on minimizing damage with those then using conventional methods to finish it. I want to be able to use the rods more but im just not good with them. So I bought myself a good light and some decent generic rods I have a nice stand and unlimited scrap panels to practice on so my questions are:

  1. If I can get my hand on the rod behind a panel im good but when I cant I keep losing where it is. Is that something that gets better the more you do it or do I just suck lol?

  2. What should i be doing to practice just keep putting dents in it and pushing them out? i have a pretty clean hood to use at the moment

  3. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated thanks

Seeking advice- front bumper repair

Lot damage (didnt see unfortunately)

First pic is after a handwash -scuffing in close shots is 90% gone)

Can it be done decently well without repainting?

I know paintless dent repair is typically for metal panels, but does anyone have experience w repairs on lightly creased and bent/bulging plastic with undamaged paint?

Paintless Dent Repair?

I accidentally backed in my mother-in-laws Lincoln and the logo on her front end left a nice little dent in my rear liftgate - wondering if this would be a PDR candidate or looking at a more extensive repair? Thanks!

Is this 2022 Camaro a Candidate? (Video)

The giant tree out front couldn't handle the winds we're having and dropped a branch on top of my Camaro, it hit towards the roof on the driver side quarter panel and I am sick to my stomach over it right now.

Paint appears to be fine from what I can tell, what are my chances this can be taken care of with PDR?

Could I get affordable PDR for this 10" door crease?

Someone put this shallow crease in my door while I was parked at the grocery store, and then they took off.

I believe the door is steel, based on a magnet check. It's an Audi A5 and the damage is not obvious to a casual observer like myself.

I'm thinking about just leaving it unless I can get a repair done in a few hours. Do I have a chance or would this repair involve too much work?

Is this a good candidate for pointless dent repair?

Ford Bronco. Got backed in to in the parking lot, other car hit the spare tire. Spare tire mount got torqued and pushed in at an angle which resulted in this big crease in the swing gate. I honestly don't care how it looks since it's nearly hidden by the spare, but the spare isn't sitting right any more and going over big bumps results in a clunk because it shifts against the lower rubber pad on the swing gate.

I've never done paintless dent repair. I don't know if this is a good candidate for this type of repair and was wondering if I could get some opinions before I just google for a local place and decide if I should trust them or not.

Odds of PDR

Hi everyone, I wanted to see if this is a candidate for PDR or not, and if it’s better to go out of insurance or file a claim. Silverado with a painted bumper. Thanks!

Bike tank

Just bought this bike. Got it home and noticed it's got this little ding in. I think this is doable with just pull and tap? Not great access through the gas tank hole and I don't really feel like taking the tank off. Just want second opinions

Good PDR candidate?

The dealer dinged my driver's side door in two spots, right next to each other, and very close to the edge.

Is this kind of thing repairable? Does the fact that it's close to the edge complicate things? I worry about access from behind.

What do you guys think? I'm hoping it can look better, I'm not expecting perfection.

BTW that dark green spot is just paint transfer. The paint itself, if it has been broken, is a tiny little spec (I couldn't tell) that can just be touched up.

Also is this a glue pull type of job? I'm curious
