the Disgrace of Gijón

Algeria faced West Germany in the 1982 FIFA World Cup. At that time, the German team was very strong. Even so, Algeria defeated them 2–1. Algeria lost 2–0 to Austria, then beat Chile 3–2.

Algeria was very close to qualifying for the next round. The decisive match was between West Germany and Austria. This is what many Algerians call "the Disgrace of Gijón."

Algeria would have qualified if the match had ended in a draw or if Austria had won by two or more goals. But instead, West Germany and Austria seemed to play for the result they both needed. Germany scored one goal early, and after that, both teams mostly passed the ball around without trying to attack. In the end, West Germany and Austria qualified, while Algeria was eliminated.

The Algerian players and fans were very upset. Algeria filed a complaint with FIFA, but FIFA refused to replay the match because the rules did not allow it. However, FIFA introduced a new rule after that. Since then, the last two matches in each World Cup group have been played at the same time to prevent something like this from happening again. Just like we recently saw with Algeria and Austria, and Jordan and Argentina playing at the same time.

Do you agree with Omar's video theory?

Here . Omar presents a theory about how the environment we live in today .social media, modern comfort, and more women entering the workforce has affected men's biology.

He argues that in the past. men were mainly defined by their physical strength and their role as providers and protectors. which were essential for survival and controlling their environment. modern society has changed those roles. As men and women have become more equal in many aspects of life. some men may struggle to understand their place or purpose. which he believes contributes to higher rates of depression and a lower desire to marry or even pursue relationships.

He also mentions that testosterone levels appear to be declining at younger ages. even during adolescence. And this is very different from the past, when men generally reached their peak testosterone levels in early adulthood.

Putting religion aside for a moment. Do u agree with Omar?

Personally, my answer is both yes and no.

It's true that today's society has many downsides. and some people believe we're seeing a decline in masculinity. However, it also has many positive aspects.

For example : men are now more comfortable expressing their emotions or even crying without facing as much social pressure as they did in the past.

There is also greater equality between men and women. with more equal rights and opportunities in the workplace. In some ways. society has become less violent than it used to be and many parts of the world experience fewer wars and conflicts than in previous generations.

A question

How can a woman who earns 4–5 million per month and has no other job save 200 million to buy a simple car?

She has many expenses like clothes. food. and everything needed to live a decent life.

When I did the math. I found that it would take at least 16 years to save that amount. 🥲

Thinking about this really makes u hate the country .it is already hard for women. so what about men?💔

Why has buying a simple car become a dream in our country?

And what do u think about that ?

Rate the world cup ceremony 2026

Even though I love Shakira at the World Cup because she gives extraordinary vibes. I still think Qatar's World Cup ceremony was the best one ever. It looked magical and carried a really meaningful message.

Without even talking about the organization of the 2026 World Cup. which seems so bad from what we've seen in the news.

Here Qatar definitely won.

I rate the ceremony 5/10 (5 points are only because I love Shakira 🥲)

Linguistics

Hi guys maybe it's not the best place to get help but why not for trying.

So. I'm an English student .i have a linguistics exam soon. our professor barely showed up during the whole year . and in the end he just sent us lessons summarized by ChatGPT and told us to do more research by ourselves.

it’s really frustrating . Anyways

I tried to summarize and understand the lessons on my own. I understood a few things but still feel bored and overwhelmed because there are too many details that I can’t fully understand. I don’t want to memorize blindly .

So .... I’m looking for someone here who understands linguistics and can explain and summarize these topics for me. I swear I’ll pray for him for the rest of my life

This man made me feel like if I were a man, my life would be more fun and full of adventure. It’s true that women might be luckier in some ways, since they can get many things without much effort (especially in our religion(islam), where men are expected to carry most of the responsibility).

But I feel like real enjoyment comes from effort, experience, and adventure.

Now I’ll just talk about traveling. I feel like if I were a man, I would spend all my money on travel experiences. I’m not even talking about traveling abroad, but even within Algeria. I feel like I’m missing out on so many fun things in life.

I know there are travel agencies that organize trips for women, but the real fun is in experiencing it on your own. Driving your car, going on an adventure, maybe with a friend, or even making new friends along the way without fear. Sliding, dancing, running, moving freely without people looking at you strangely or feeling restricted.

These are things men can do more easily. Women, on the other hand, often can’t—especially in our society. Even if there are organized trips for women, many of them can’t go because they live in conservative families that don’t allow it, or because of fear for their safety.

In reality, women are not like men in our society. They can’t move freely, even if they dress modestly. They face harassment and other difficulties. Even social interactions are different—men can talk to strangers easily, even offer them a ride without it being a big deal. But among women, there can sometimes be less trust, or even jealousy.

Honestly, sometimes I wish I were a man. And if I were a man, I would do everything—literally everything.
