I still don't really understand how to evaluate the cornea

I've seen and read so many things about using the slit lamp and making a thin section to see which layers of the cornea are affected. Sometimes I feel like I see an epithelial defect but apparently it has stromal involvement. Or sometimes I feel like the cornea has a lot of haze and edema but it turns out it's just epithelial scarring or vice versa, it look like a scar but really it's just endothelial dysfunction.

I also don't know how to estimate how thin a cornea is in patients with PUK or some other corneal disease.

I don't get it. Even with teaching scopes, it's always vague or like "you can see how the beam is slightly crooked in this area so you know it's an endothelial defect".

Does anyone have any good resources that one can learn from with actual diagrams or arrows pointing to specific areas of a corneal exam?

How's the lifestyle in private practice glaucoma?

How often are glaucoma doctors being called in for complications from tubes and trabs?

I've been enjoying glaucoma more than I thought in residency but haven't seen many tube/trab complications yet and wonder how common they are in private practice and how often glaucoma specialists are getting called in after hours or over the weekends to deal with them.

I do want to prioritize lifestyle in life and that's why I was looking into cataract/refractive but I don't find refractive cases to be as interesting as I would have hoped

Dinner suggestion for 30th birthday? (group of 4)

Celebrating a friend's 30th birthday in Mid August and I'm starting to look for reservations/planning.

It's just for a small group of 4 and not looking for anything too crazy expensive like a tasting menu or omakase but rather a sit-down restaurant, maybe a bar or cocktail lounge after.

Any cuisine is fair game but probably not Bavettes or Aba because we just went to those in the past month.

I heard good things about Bastian Asador and Tre Dita so far

How much of the minute details do we need to know for OKAPS

For instance I just got done reading the chapter on aqueous humor and there's random details like calcium content is half that of plasma or that a specific type of proteinase inhibitor is located in the stroma.

Should we be memorizing all of these random factoids too? If that's case, I'm tempted to just make my own cards instead of unsuspending chunks of Blue Ophthalmology Anki Deck

Where are people finding cheap tailors?

I just need a few pants hemmed to make them shorter, no other alterations, and have found several tailors in Chicago that charge $25-$35 per pants per hem to which people have been saying that's a total rip off and that people hem for $5-10 but then never give out names or suggestions. Anyone know of any tailors that'll do it for that cheap?

Ophthalmologists, how do you feel about the anti-refractive surgery community?

I know it's a small subset of people but a very vocal one, even just on reddit alone. There's been previous protests at ASCRS and numerous online discussions about how refractive surgeons are unethical, greedy, and/or simply evil to continue to provide laser surgery to patients. They frequently cite that patients dont get proper informed consent or that the creator of LASIK was against it.

I recently also read an online discussion where people were saying all refractive surgeons deserve jail or that they wish they can "accidentally rear into them with their vehicle as the surgeon is walking out their clinic".

As someone interested in refractive surgery, it does worry me a little that there's such a visceral hate towards a specific group of surgeons, regardless of how ethically one practices, especially when some people are posting about violence against them.

Any refractive surgeons have thoughts?

Indoor, heated, assigned, gated/covered parking for $375 a month versus an outdoor, unassigned dirt lot across the street (unattached but it's a 30 second walk across the street) with a fence around it for $75 a month. I live somewhere that snows a lot in the winter and temps drop to below freezing for most of the winter season. What would you guys do?
