How is Allmandring I student housing in Stuttgart?

Hi everyone,

I’m an incoming international master’s student at the University of Stuttgart and I’ve just received an offer for a room in Allmandring II (a 4-person WG) through Studierendenwerk Stuttgart.

I’d love to hear from anyone who has lived there recently or knows someone who has.

A few questions:

* What’s the overall experience like living in Allmandring I!?

* How are the rooms and common areas?

* Is it generally clean and well-maintained?

* What’s the social atmosphere like? Is it easy to meet people and make friends?

* How convenient is it for students studying at the Vaihingen campus?

* Are there any major pros or cons I should know before accepting?

The rent is €391/month, and from what I’ve seen the location looks very convenient for the university.

Any experiences, tips, or advice would be greatly appreciated!

The ever out of reach dream

I’ve always been into watches since I was a kid. No expensive taste, no fancy brands, no hype-trends, nothing. Just good old fashioned excitement. Didn’t know shit about movements or brands, any watch my parents got me was god tier. Zoop? cool. Fast track? even cooler. Casio? hell yeah. Nothing mattered more than a cool ass dial.

Then boom you’re a teenager with unrestricted wifi, you’re diving even deeper into watches. Learning all sorts of stuff. “Wait there’s three types of glass? and you call them crystals? And then There’s different kinds of movements? WHAT? a watch can recharge itself? just from the movements of your wrist?” And then you learn about the history of all sorts of brands, casio’s tech, seiko’s quartz revolution, swiss accuracy, so much more, and along the way you come across that one watch.

That one watch you’ve watched hundreds of videos about, lost countless hours of sleep researching everything about it, and then you check the price, it says 12,000. “There’s no way I’ll be able to get that, that’s absurd”, “It just tells the time, I don’t really need it, I’m just a student”. “But I want it really bad”. You know what? I’m going to save up for it. No more spending pocket money.

Snacks? nope I’ll just have my lunch. Going out? nope I’ll just stay in. Autos to school? nope I’m taking the bus. You know what? I’ll just walk one way and save a trip’s cost. Finally when you almost save up enough, you check the price, “wait it’s 14,000 now? that’s not too bad, I can manage another 2k”. “Wait it’s 16,000 now? whatever I’m really close”. “18,000? HOW? I just checked the price yesterday??”.

You’re now in college, second guessing if you’re reckless enough to make such a purchase. “You know what? I’m going to keep saving. I’ll be responsible, I’ll get it when I get my salary.”

“25,000” “WHEN THE HECK DID THIS HAPPEN?” That’s not too bad my salary can still cover it. Well nope, get fuc**d, it’s 35,000 now. “You know what, it’s fine, I’ll just get it, I have spent so much time and effort on this.”

Finally, after years of wanting it and saving up for it. You take that jump.

“Wait why am I not instantly happy?” “Where did all of my excitement go?” “Am I going to regret this?”

Somewhere along the way, the hobby had turned into a chore. The dream had turned into a job. Excitement had turned into stress.

There’s this cool indie developer who had said something along the lines of, “Culture shouldn’t exist only for those who can afford it”. It’s a beautiful quote about not being able to afford games.

I think the watch community has a privilege that we have failed to realise. Culture isn’t just that rolex or the omega or the seiko or anything thats unaffordable to you. It can also be that f91-w you wore when you went for a smoke with your friends, the hmt you wore on your first date, the g shock you wore on your college trip. It can be anything you want it to be. And we should never forget that.

TLDR; Fu*k you Seiko.

The Waterbury line has really brought Timex back into the conversation.

Got it in an impulse, was worried i might not like it. Not anymore. Loving it!

Help me choose!

I have been saving up for a while to get myself a new watch, however now I'm having trouble deciding what to do as the options have gotten better.

I can either get one of the Seikos or both a Marlin and the Casioak.

Although a casio might be convenient as I'll be travelling abroad later this year, seiko has been my dream watch since forever. I'm also unsure of the marlin because of the quartz movement and it's acrylic glass.

Help me reddit!!

Does anyone want an AE-1200 Casio Royale?

Sorry if this goes against the rules.

I have been trying to get this watch for a long time, yesterday when I finally had the chance to buy it from a store, turns out my sister had bought the same one to surprise me as well. Now I have two, if anyone needs it, please DM. The tag, stickers, warranty etc everything is untouched. I am only doing this to get a different watch for myself, no markups.

Edit: people have pointed out that no one would get this at showroom price, which is fair.
Edit 2: SOLD. Thank you everyone for reaching out!!
