is everyone ok?

just checking in with y'all. is everyone alright?

because i'm not sure that i am! the situation after pride on Sunday really affected me and i didn't even see the worst of it, but just the vibe with police EVERYWHERE milling around with batons and sirens going off felt so dark and apocalyptic. i have always felt so welcomed and comfortable as a gay girl in Philly but what happened really shook my sense of safety.

i think part of it stems from the fact that i've been VERY privileged to not have had many encounters with the police in my life, and at one point sunday i remember making eye contact with a police officer, tall white guy, and me in my hoochie mama pride getup - i remember thinking, wow, this guy probably sees me as an enemy to be liquidated. and i've never felt anything like that before!

and yes, i am fortunate to have a therapist to process all this with! but i just wanted to do a lil community check in. stay safe everyone!

Is it worth going to the 9th St/Italian Market Festival tomorrow ?

I intended to make it out today but had something come up. Is Day 2 worth checking out? I assume the greasy pole climb is only a Saturday thing? last year I only caught the very tail end of the second day and it was kind of a shitshow with crazy lines and smoke and drunk people everywhere so wondering if there's anything cool earlier in the day...

Those of you renting houses, where and how much are you paying per month?

my partner and I are looking to possibly upgrade to a bigger space at the end of our lease and have considered renting a house. Our rent has gone up such that if we rented a house in say South Philly we'd possibly be paying around the same amount of money per month, possibly a little more for much more space than our 1br in a scammy apartment complex. those of you renting houses, how much are we paying and where? any pitfalls or big disadvantages to renting a house over renting an apartment in philly?
