Secret Songs from EAS Shouldn’t be “Optional”

Secret Songs from EAS Shouldn’t be “Optional”

I saw the image of secret song choices pop up on the regular 5sos subreddit, and it made me super annoyed. This is the EVERYONES A STAR TOUR, not the “5sos eras tour”. All of these songs should not be optional “secret songs”, they should be a permanent part of this tour’s setlist.

I understand the concept of them picking songs out of their entire discography to appeal to more audience members or choosing what works best for the storyline, but I swear NONE of their previous tours ever strayed this far away from the focus album. According to setlist accounts they regularly play around 8 songs from EAS- which I get could be considered a lot, but they’re still leaving an entire half of the album unplayed. Secret songs should be rarities from their previous albums & EP’s instead of letting folks pick things that should’ve already been there in the first place.

The worst part is I feel like all four of these “secret songs” are some of the actual fan favorites from the album VS the “album hits” they chose to play instead. I love em to death, but geez maybe add in a single one of these from the album you’re supposed to be touring at the very least, especially if they’re permanently taking away solo songs. (Not saying they should replace solosauce with four new songs, but literally just ONE.)

The tour is fantastic overall, and many of the secret song choices have been fantastic, but apparently this EAS only selection has been repeated recently for multiple shows instead of giving those fans older song options and rarities like everyone else.

Setlist Shortened, Go Cry About It

Edit: I am talking about the Richmond show specifically and only and the heat danger surrounding the event, I am not discussing the topic of if the songs will remain permanently on the setlist or not. That is a whole other issue that is important to discuss and would be horrible if it’s a permanent change, but that’s not the point I’m making here.

If folks can snark one way, I have every right to snark the other direction. If it was just because they’ve simply removed the solo songs from the set, I’d be upset as well. But to my understanding it seemed to be due to heat issues. Either way, folks have every right to be mad about communication issues, but not about heat and safety as whole.

I get that “Taylor Swift’s done it” and that they should have communicated better about why they cut all the solo songs from the Richmond show. But do you guys have 0 understanding about how venues work????

It was around 95 Fahrenheit that day with high humidity that could’ve made it feel far hotter, possibly over 100 Fahrenheit. Most venues have rules in place when it comes to temperature, meaning this probably wasn’t 5sos or their team’s official call on cutting the solo songs. Every venue is different and has their own safety rules and regulations, so even if Taylor Swift got away with high heat at her venues, other locations may differ in what they consider “hot enough to shorten the show”.

On top of that, I’d think any reasonable person would rather they cut a couple of songs instead of watching tons of people pass out all over the place. “Taylor swift Taylor swift” GUYS. It’s for the safety of the crowd, not about the endurance of the band themselves playing in high temps. I said it before and I’ll say it again, I’d rather loose a couple bucks from some cut songs than watch tons of people pay hundreds for an ambulance ride or medical care. If someone really thinks a few lost dollars are worth someone else’s life, health, and safety, they’re just weird.

I always understand people have the right to be upset about loosing some of the setlist they were promised, you’re allowed to be mad, as I would be upset too. Ashnikko changed her tour setlist as a whole and I was bummed I missed out on my favorite two songs and her Halloween remixes, the same loss time as the cut solos for 5sos had, but I moved on and still adored the show we were given. Her cuts weren’t even due to heat or safety, and I’d still go again and pay the same cost without those songs on the setlist because it was a privilege to be there at all. Again I emphasize the venue or team for 5sos should’ve communicated it or something, but fans don’t have to be a bully about folks caring about other’s health instead of their few lost dollars, sounding entitled as can be. Be grateful you didn’t pass out and miss it entirely.

If it wasn’t a heat issue, again I get it, I really really do- allegedly it may have also been due to a safety lockdown I saw from another commenter. But either way, y’all’s entitlement and lack of care for others is astounding. Health/safety should always be top priority.

Secret NYC Show matches set aesthetics from The 1975’s tour

Due to seeing limited videos of the event so far I can’t see it all for sure, but the stage setup of her secret show in NYC reminds me so vividly of The 1975’s stage setup during their “At Their Very Best…” tour a few years ago!

Obviously the old tv’s, carpet, and furniture is it’s own popular aesthetic and I don’t think there are any actual ties other than the obvious (George). It’s just that the multiple tv’s, furniture, and setup of the entire thing feels like a flashback to The 1975’s melancholy house setup they put together. Not to mention the folks drinking and hanging out on the couches on stage reminded me of Matty Healy’s acting/dramatics of drinking and smoking while sitting on a couch watching the tv’s during the show. Did anyone else notice this or think the same thing?? Thought it was a fun comparison.
