Fantasy vs. Destiny

Just got off a 5 night Fantasy cruise with the fam!

I figured since we just did the Destiny in Jan, I’d share where each cruise won for us and our overall family pick + answer any questions you have.

Where Fantasy Wins:

1. MUCH better MDR food and service. We were on one of the first Destiny sailings so they were working out some kinks, but, food on the Fantasy was above average for each rotation and service was exceptional. We also preferred no shows so we could enjoy our meal together. Food on the Destiny was bad and everything felt a bit chaotic.

  1. The shows on the Fantasy get the slight edge. Hercules was uh-mazing, best show overall, but all the shows on the Fantasy were great and Aladdin and Believe were magical.

  2. Much better adult space. The family zone by the adult space was also nice and rarely occupied by families so nice and quiet.

Where the Destiny Wins:

  1. SPACE. Everything, everything felt crowded on the Fantasy. Pools, kids club line, dining. Part of this was a Jan vs

August

  1. cruise, but part of it is size of the ship. Several additional pools etc. make a ton of difference.
  2. Theming. I know this one is personal preference, but the hero’s/villans theme is so cool. We had a blast seeing Maleficent, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Loki vs. classic Disney characters. The shows in the Atrium on the Destiny were so fun. The Atrium on the Fantasy was basically lines to see the characters.
  3. Oceaneers club. Bigger, better, more character experiences. Our 10 and 5 year old would not leave! On the Fantasy our 10 yr old spent like 30 minutes there the entire trip.

If we had to pick, and it was an identical itinerary, we’d go with the Destiny. If you’re deciding between the two and have questions let me know!

P.S. we did dinner at Remy and brunch at Palo on this cruise and I’ll post our thoughts on both of those soon!! Both were great experiences with excellent food, and one clear winner.

Looking for Dad + Daughter food recommendations in NYC

Help a brother out! I’m taking my daughter on our first trip where it’s just me and her, instead of with the whole family (she’s 10).

We LOVE watching restaurant review videos and travel videos on YouTube together.

I’d really love to take her a couple of unique “foodie” restaurant experiences but without paying $500-1k. Just not going to spend that much $ to eat with my 10 year old. The wife? Sure 🤣. Is there a tasting menu that would work for her? Something else?

She loves fish and seafood, sushi, but pretty adventurous for a 10 year old. Any ideas?!

Thank you!

P.S. if you’ve got a rec for best bakery we’ll take that too, but I’m sure I can search the sub for posts in that.

Dad + Daughter NYC Recs

Hey Everyone! Hoping you can help me out.

I’m taking my daughter (10) on our first solo trip to NYC (she’s traveled a lot with our whole family)

We’ll be doing broadway and some other fun stuff.

We LOVE watching travel/foodie videos together and she’s an adventurous eater. Hoping to do two things:

  1. Eat somewhere that has a Michelin type experience, that’s ok with her age
  2. We’d love to do afternoon tea somewhere.

Thanks for any insights you can provide!

Rough play is part of greatness

I’m from Iowa City, I played D1 b-ball, I’ve watched most of Caitlin Clark’s games.

She’s generational!

Not sure if any of you watch soccer, but I highly recommend checking out the highlights of France’s World Cup game against Paraguay. Mbappe got beat up the whole game and took it like a champ. It was dirty, it lacked class. He knows teams can’t stop him and so they’ll play dirty, they’ll do whatever they can to stop him.

Haters gon hate. For any of you that grew up watching Jordan get his ass kicked by the Pistons year after year, you know where I’m going…

Caitlin is going to be hated, players are going to play dirty, that’s the price of greatness and it’s part of ball. Always has been, always will be.

She will be fine and it will be part of her legacy when she wins her first couple championships and shuts everyone up. Embrace the hate, use it as rocket fuel.

I believe in you Caitlin!

Edit:

Yes, the refs in the W are the worst in any league I’ve ever seen. Just atrocious, but that’s not the point of my post. They need to protect Caitlin and all the players and call a consistent game.

My points still stand.

Hear me out. I’ve seen multiple threads asking what people’s favorite ship is that have done all/most of them

BUT

Many of the comments seem to be from an adult only/mostly perspective. For example, a lot of people LOVE the Fantasy, but because the District (adult) area is great, and the adult only section is good. No mention of the kids…

I ask because we (family of 4 with 2 kids 11U) have done the Destiny, soon to do the Fantasy, but I think the kids experience makes a big difference for us on how much we like the ship. Have also done an RC cruise (don’t hate me 🤣)

So the question is, as a combined family experience, how would you rank the ships? Does that change anything? Why or why not.

Thanks!

P.S. I’ll share our ranking between Destiny and Fantasy post trip!!
