Would Virgin fit us?

Hi! My husband and I are celebrating 10 years next year. We have a 5 year old and we cannot wait to take a kid free trip. But we are more introverted and really want a relaxing and romantic vibe. I’m afraid Virgin may be too party or social for us. Has anyone cruised that is more like us and enjoyed Virgin?

Cruise for 10th anniversary

Hi!

Next year my husband and I will celebrate 10 years. We’ve had a rough few years with me beating cancer and him being in school. We’d really like to just relax, have it be romantic, and not really a party vibe. We plan to do the spa, excursions, and eat a lot of good food. But not super older crowd either, I am 35 and he is 39! I can’t seem to find the best cruise line for us. Our budget is about $7,000. Any tips would be so appreciated! Thank you!

Safe bet or heart route?

Hi all,

I am applying for a scholar award and I’m torn. My project is about water and living with the uncertainties of it. It’s kind of a hybrid writing/public health project. I have a solid affiliation in Denmark, but my heart isn’t as in it and the dependent benefits are not great. I’m working on an affiliation in Scotland and the project lines up amazingly with the institution and the benefits are better. However, Denmark has a significantly higher acceptance rate than the UK. what would you do? I’ll be bringing my husband and 6 year old.

Thanks!

LA vs Chicago

Help! We have job offers in both cities. We will both be making in the 100ks range, more in LA than Chicago. We’ve been to LA and love it but haven’t been to Chicago yet. We have one daughter, a 5 year old who will be in kindergarten this fall. What the heck do we do!? Both are far from family, which I don’t mind tbh. We are super liberal, love the weather of LA, loved living in New Orleans, love the idea of being able to be right in the middle of everything. And our daughter will be in public school, we will be picking a neighborhood around that. What would you do? I’m terrified of LA because I’ve heard horror stories forever about cost but Chicago apartments don’t look much better. Help please!

Just need reassurance that we will be okay

I am FOR SURE not someone who takes risks, but I’ve been feeling the pull to move to LA for a while now. It’s me, my husband, and our 5 year old daughter. My husband and I flew out to LA for a week and did all the “boring” life stuff: drove to a ton of neighborhoods, drove by elementary schools, mapped how far neighborhood we liked were from potential jobs, etc. And went to In N Out too much, obviously. Potential incomes from looking at comparable in our field look like about $125,000 for myself and $130,000 for my husband.

We fell in love with Echo Park and Los Feliz, looking primarily there. Our daughter will go to a public school at least the first year while we figure out charters, I know a lot of people aren’t fans but that’s our plan.

I guess my fear is alllll we hear about is we won’t be able to do it because of COL. We HAVE only lived in low COL areas (New Orleans and West Virginia) but we are so ready to be a in blue state away from people who have Trump 2028 signs up.

Can someone just tell me we can do this!? Yes our apartment will be smaller, yes we’ll shop less, but it feels worth it to me and I’m just trying to hype myself up to take this leap now in my mid-30s and not regret not going in 10 years. Thank you!

EDIT: guess I should have clarified, no we will not move before we have jobs in place!
