Ok, here is a kind of very specific question.. but figured here would be the best place to ask.

My apologies for the long windedness.

We have a haunted G&D 3HP chiller. Our tech (who is awesome), and even G&D think there are F'ing gremlins living in the thing. Had it for 6 years and nothing but issues.

So when we installed it, it went on the side of the building.. cause who is gonna care about noise and heat in a side lot. Well that was Feb 2020.. and a few short months later, that side lot became prime real estate for our new outside seating. It is loud, and can be hot. but people have managed with with only sporadic complaining.

We are finally looking to replace this one, have an exorcism on the spot and put a new 5HP ProChiller there.

Here is the question. On paper the G&D is showing 65db at 10'. This is a giant screaming lie, as it is measuring about 79 or so. but also it may be the tortured souls making the noise.

On paper the ProChiller (even the smaller 3HP) are showing 78dB at 10'. If this is accurate, it wont be much of a difference (and with the larger reservoir, the compressor "should" run less frequently.

Anyone have any experience with small chillers of these two brands and anecdotally how they compare in loudness?

Note: moving the chiller (which I would have loved to do before we started) is not possible. No other location works and also the plumbing is staying (because it is crazy expensive to move now).
