Ceiling light fire, landlord only changing the lamp

We had a weird sulfur, chemical smell in the kitchen for 2 days and I randomly walked in to the tube light in the ceiling smoking, glowing and melting on one end. I believe it was on fire. I got the tube light out (yes yes I know really dumb shit but panicked as the flat was about to catch fire) and it stoped.. the light switch also crackles. The place still smells really weird too.

An electrician came out, who only took photos of the light and had a quick look inside the wall switch. Our landlord now says it's just the light that has "come to the end of it's life" and is only changing it without further investigations.

We also had a burnt and melted wall socket a few months ago in another room that is not wall to wall with the kitchen. Under the sink the washing machine and oven are plugged into an extension cord. Sometimes when using an extension cord or wall plug there's sparks. When they did the last EICR the person did not check all outlets etc.

How much should I freak out about whether we live in a electrical fire death trap or not? 😅 Should the landlord do more checks?

Good CMHT close to North London?

My GP is working on transferring me to a CMHT in a different borough due to how incompetent my local one is (writing incorrect info in journal, getting medications wrong in letters to GP, discharging me without treatment plan etc) and he mentioned neighbouring boroughs to Islington/Camden, which is the team I am under now, so I feel for the rest of you that are too 🥲

I'm wondering if anyone has had particularly good/bad experiences with CMHT in the closest boroughs? He mentioned Harringay for example.

Disco Elysium time = depression time!

I kind of giggle about this, but for me the craving to play through Disco Elysium is the most striking sign that depression has hit 😂 maybe it should be used as an official diagnostics measurement? "So how Disco are you on a scale from 1 to 10 today?"

Psychiatrist blaming hypo on ADHD and emotional dysregultion so wont give meds, crisis line not helping

So I've been in contact with my GP and the crisis line about being hypomanic and needing medication adjustment. I had an appointment with a nurse at the mental health core team on the 3rd, we agreed on a medication which she would discuss with the psychiatrist and send me and my GP a letter the following week. Fast forward to now, three weeks later and me having tried to reach them multiple times, my GP trying to reach them and me having to call the crisis line today only to be told they sent the letter on Friday.

Plot twist: they deem me not hypomanic even though I have spent all my money, gone full on hypersexual and not slept. I've been trying to manage it by just knocking myself out with sleeping pills and not leaving the house, but I do just wanna drink and sleep with people, still spending money. It's incredibly horrible and humiliating to be told me sleeping with a bunch of strangers and so on is "not hypomania"

Additionally the psychiatrist claims my issues stem from emotional dysregilation and adhd and that medication is unlikely to help me. Crisis line was condensending and told me to use the tools I learnt in CBT and go to therapy in 6 months, and that there's no point in me seeing another psychiatrist as they will agree with the first one (who btw has met me once after I have been bounced around from 3 other temporary ones). So according to the psychiatrist there is "no evidence of hypomania", so now my GP can't prescribe me anything and crisis line wont touch me. Idk what to do. It feels like they're just saying I'm a shit person with ADHD who doesn't need help 😂 I'be been diagnosed with bipolar for ,2 years with none of the other 3 psychiatrists questioning the diagnosis. I've been holding it together by a thread thinking help was on the way and this is just fucked.

Friends disappearing when you talk about hypo and/or depression

It seems like people think I have the plague when I'm struggling, whether it's admitting I'm absolutely buzzing with hypo or falling into depression.

Spoke to most of my friends during and now after hypo, I have been in contact with psychiatry, crisis services etc. without getting help but been discussing it with mates. No one checks in how it's going, phone goes dead silent. People only answer if I don't mention how badly I'm doing, so I stop speaking to them about it and they resume contact.

How the hell do you deal with that? Don't say "get new friends" cause that's simplifying it massively.

Hair loss on Lithium (when already on Lamictal)

I know everyone's body reacts differently to meds, and will discuss with medical professionals. I am asking for personal experiences and know they are anecdotal. I would kindly ask that you avoid any "your hair is not as important as your mental health" comments, please.

I lost a huge amount of my hair on Lamictal, and it has still not grown back even after we lowered the dose from 300 to 200 mg. I have been on it for coming up to two years.

Now I've been deeply depressed on Lamictal, and even worse I've lately become severely hypomanic and royally fucked up a lot of areas in my life (economic, relationship, physical health). My psychiatrist has not answered communications nor prescribed me anything for over a month, which is when I first flagged hypomania and it has all spiralled out of control. We then spoke about Latuda/Lurasidone. My GP won't touch this, the mental health crisis line wants me to speak to my psychiatrist.

I'll likely go to a mental health ER to get help with stopping the hypomania, and perhaps avoiding the crash after. I presume they'll give me Lithium, which I am dead scared of as it has a high rate of hair loss and from what I read it's more likely you get that side effect if you already have it with another med.

What's people's experience with the hair loss part, especially if you had hair loss on Lamictal and then started Lithium?

Nooks like Magic Library (not just wood pieces)

Hi everyone! I did the Magic Library from Polegas as my first nook and I loved it! But then I ordered one called Arcade Spire from another seller on Amazon, and it was basically just pre printed wooden pieces to stick together which I didn't like at all.

Could you please recommend more ones that are like Magic Library where you get to build books and various little things, rather than it just being a 3D wood puzzle? Preferably ones that are dust proof/come with dust covers.

Thank you 🥰

EDIT: It would be fun with some more goth/dark ones if you know any!

Overpaid tax, report to UC? (England)

Hi,

I'm in England and this is re UC income and capital

So I have apparently over paid tax and now I have 2-3 grand sitting in my self assessment tax account. Great news as I have very little savings, but I also didn't expect it and now I don't know how to sort it. So to be clear it is still with HMRC and I have not requested a refund.

Can I keep it there to go towards future tax for my self-employment work and not report? Or do I have to take it out and report it? Or report it regardless of if it stays with HMRC or is withdrawn?

I want to be honest with UC and I don't want to have to pay back money to them later if I do something wrong here.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

GP denying hypomania help?

I have realised I'm hypo. It's escalated over 1-2 weeks and has ended up in me basically cheating, nearly leaving the country with someone I don't know, stopped sleeping and burned about 2 grand of money I really couldn't afford to lose. I am not trying to avoid taking responsibility for my actions, I've been an absolute dickhead.

I realised yesterday, took Zopiclone to sleep 10 hours, I'm still buzzing today, and then called my GP who said he's not sure it's hypomania as it has lasted more than a few days and said it could just be "life circumstances". He asked me to speak slower twice as he couldn't keep up. Psych has previously said, even though they agree firmly I have bipolar 2, that there is no evidence of hypomania while in their care (long story short: there is, but they have not documented properly when I flagged it) so now it feels like they think I'm crying wolf as I got no advice, direction or help.

I am trying to de-escalate it myself with proper sleep, medication, no exciting stuff and eating on a schedule and I'm going to the psychiatry crisis team in my area if it isn't calming down by the weekend.

But am I insane or doesn't hypomania last from days up to months? I'm getting really tired of trying to fight medical professionals, doubting my own experiences after their reactions and half trying to tell myself I'm not hypo since I got no real advice so I don't need to do anything 🙈 I 50/50 know that's not true but man am I fighting the proverbial devil on the shoulder with that one 🫠

Oldschool fuorescent light tube, landlord wont fix/change

We're in England. So our kitchen tube light fitting (which is likely from mid century when the flat was built) started acting up. I got a new tube less than a year ago and it died recently. The bulb fittings are blackened. We have tried two different LED tubes that wont work. It's a T8/12 fitting if I found correct info. Are those not banned in the UK and is the landlord not meant to fit a modern one?

He sent someone out who said "it just needs a new tube" and is now saying he will charge us £130 if someone comes out and it turns out to be "just the bulb". Can he even legally do that?

We have been without kitchen lights for over 2 weeks
