Hello Everyone,
I’ve now done all 3 WDW Parks that offer After Hours events. I have several strong opinions on them, and I wanted to offer my help for anyone looking to attend, or had questions about attending.
It is not for everyone, in fact, I would say I’m curious if they will continue or not considering what I have seen. I most recently did one at EPCOT, but have done MK and DHS as well.
I will start by saying that each of them felt a little different, with EPCOT being the most different out of all of them.
One big thing to know, is that if you think this is like the Extra Magic Hours of the past, it is unfortunately not. The new(ish) After Hours ‘Parties’ offer very limited experiences outside of going on the attractions with very minimal waits.
If you are willing to pay $180+ to ride attractions for 3 hours, then you’ll probably want to check them out. However, you might be waiting 40+ min or so for Tron, or Guardians even with the limited crowds. In parks with few attractions, and with the event offering nothing other than the rides, everyone clogs up the only things that you can actually do.
Also, I dislike the fact that parts of the parks are completely closed and not all food/merch areas are open. I understand the reasoning, I just don’t like it, and it felt cheap. For example, in EPCOT, Everything between France and Norway was roped off. You couldn’t even walk over there. That was a bummer for people like myself who really enjoy the empty, quiet nights at the parks; so much so that I’m willing to pay extra for it.
This leads me to another issue, which was specific to EPCOT, which was for some reason they thought it was a good idea for a DJ to blast (and I mean blast) pop music for the entire 3 hour period. Walking around the Mexico with Katy Parry blasting was the opposite of relaxing. I understand that EPCOT has a weird identity crisis seemingly in perpetuity, but the DJ area during the day feels like a Six Flags, and at night with limited people it felt so cringy.
If anyone has any questions regarding the events, please lmk. Otherwise I would say that I don’t think they are worth the money. It’s a very abridged version of EMHs of the past without the charm and with a large price tag.
