Yikes! Magic bands aren’t!
I asked some time ago about magic bands. It seemed about a 50/50 split in value. As a result of my first day at Disney, I can come down firmly on the side of little value. They did get us into Typhoon Lagoon, so that’s nice. None of us (4 people) could buy anything with them. Get to Wilderness Lodge and they won’t open the room door. Had to go to the front desk and have each one individually fixed. They couldn’t be used to buy anything at the Lodge. So, they got us into the park, and after a fair amount of hassle they got us into the rooms. The value proposition wasn’t met. I’m thinking of taking this crew on a Disney cruise next year. I wonder if these semi-expensive souvenirs will be useful then.
Some restaurants now for hotel guests only?
Hi, I was looking to itinerary an upcoming trip to MK and trying to find a quick service stop that everyone could enjoy. Gasparilla Island Grill looked like a top option to hop the monorail over to Grand Floridian- but this text is accompanied in the app:
Important Information
At this time, mobile ordering from Gasparilla Island Grill is only available to Guests staying at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and at The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
I did see on one of the food blogs that certain restaurants now require you to be present locally to order- but is this accurate? How would they efficiently enforce that?
Dont worry, I wouldn’t go if that’s truly the policy just curious if the service counter has to check your key card or how all that would even work… we’re staying at a Disney resort, not bum influencers hopping on from dis springs fwiw.
Would there be any appeal for a ToT themed resort hotel?
Tower of terror has a very loyal fanbase, but would Disney lose money from making a "creepy" hotel because families with small children wouldn't go there?
What Are Your Personal Cringe Stories From WDW?
What is a moment you personally have done or experienced at WDW that embarrasses you to look back on?
I have a few myself. For one thing, I accidentally called Sulley 'Mike'. I played it off like I was teasing him, but even if that was the case, it would have been a dumb joke.
Another time, I got very sick at Magic Kingdom and had to take the bus to AoA with stinky clothes. I stopped into the resort gift shop to replenish my clothing and everything was way out of budget so I embarrassingly explained to a CM what my predicament was. I then asked if they had any cheaper clothing items that were on clearance or something. She straight up said no. I should have just not asked and left.
My third story was a different time I got sick at MK (I know) and I flirted heavily with the paramedic who wound up being married. I just imagine someone who just threw up all over the bench that Ozzy Osbourne took photos on and then attempted to flirt. What was I thinking?! Shoot your shot, right? Ugh.
Longest line I’ve ever seen for the Skyliner (7/4/26)
After the fireworks, it stretched to the pirate slide at Beach Club. Never been happier to be staying there! Also the lobby was filled with Skyliner refugees. Welcome one and all 😉
What canceled ride, land or attraction would you have like to see built at WDW?
My custom Norway World Cup kit came in just in time. Looking forward to wearing this to Epcot next #NeverFørget #RipMaelstrom
Taking my 80 yr old mom to Disney
My mom is turning 80 in December and really wants to go to Disney. She hasn't been since 2017. She has a bad knee so we already recommended we get her a scooter or wheelchair, but other than that she is in good health. I know it wouldn't be a good idea for her to ride Tron, GOTG, and intense coasters like that, but she wants to ride Tiana, Big Thunder, and Seven Dwarfs mine train. She also wants to watch all the shows. I want her to have a good time, but her advanced age on some of the rides does concern me. Does anyone have a parent around that age that still does those type of rides, or is there an older person here who can share their experience? Should I try to talk her into doing only the milder rides?
Thoughts and observations from this past week
6/28-7/4. Beach Club. Overall a great trip. Very crowded.
The good:
Cast members still go above and beyond, the magic is still there for us. My wife is in a wheelchair and they are so accommodating and helpful.
Premier pass is great. We did MK twice, Epcot and HS once and it was great. Very smooth. Well worth it.
Lightning lanes are so worth it. I can’t imagine waiting in some of these lines
The weather was fantastic.
Guardians is still the best ride on the planet and 5 of the 6 songs are top notch.
Roundup Rodeo is still fantastic. Though I still miss the fried pickles.
Beach club is a great hotel. Kitchen sink is top tier.
Whispering canyon was a great experience. Having a waitress play the part was so good. She did great.
The bad:
They still oversell after hours parties. We should not have 40 min waits on after hour parties
YouTubers, ugh. Some of the worst people in the parks.
Tiana. the redo is still a travesty. No Dr Falicier is a huge mistake. The animatronics are very broken.
I’m lucky enough where I don’t have to worry too much about the prices, but man is it getting expensive.
World showcase needs to go back to 11pm close. I know people ruined it but 9pm sucks.
The ugly:
People who eat on top of garbage and then get mad when I put my garbage in the can where they are eating really suck.
They need to fix the Guardians queue. People don’t know how to act.
Parents. Watch your damn kids. This is not your personal playground for them to run amok.
If you’re gonna watch the World Cup on your phone, that’s cool but maybe don’t do it at full volume on The American Adventure show.
Kurt Russel would be a great choice for John (Carousel of Progress)
Ideally, I would hope that Disney would cast a working voice actor for the role, but if they went the celebrity actor route, Kurt Russell would have my vote.
Rex Allen and Jean Shepherd both shared qualities of having very rich, warm voices and being active contemporaries of Walt Disney era media. Rex Allen and Jean Shepherd grew up through the most of the events of the original ride (born in 1920 and 1921 respectively).
Kurt Russell has a rich, warm voice. Russell was a contemporary of Walt Disney, being the one of the subjects of Disney’s last writings. Russell grew up and lived through the coming events of the updated ride (born in 1951).
Russel fits in well the shared qualities of Allen and Shepherd and I think would fit well as a new voice actor for John.
4th of July backstage
Anyone else miss the fireworks show tonight because they were being angrily hounded by cast members all the sudden?
I swear it was like all the Disney staff suddenly started screaming at me and my family to move back and forth before pushing us to a “backstage” area. Where we missed the show.
Luckily I’ve got my family and that’s what this country and day is all about, but the experience was pretty aggressive and disappointing.
Epcot Dining Recommendations
It will be my first time at Epcot this Sept.
What places would you recommend for A) Foodie and B) someone who like the experience over food options?
Missing Disney
Just got back from my Disney World vacation, and it truly was magical. I was sitting and feeling down yesterday after getting home, then lo and behold, the bounce back offer! Lol
Of course, to dispell the sadness and depression, I booked my next trip.
Do a lot of you guys use the bounce back offer when you get it? 😊 It was a great offer!
Thanks in advance for any comments.
Disney Cars in Disney World
I know they are building the new Cars in MK, but we’re going in March with two Cars obsessed boys.
Is there any place to see any type of Cars other than the AOA hotel? We’re staying at AKL.
For the more frequent visitors?
Going with three rooms at pop for a stay coming up. First time ive stayed at pop.
So question is what time in the morning does the Skyliner really start getting packed with long waits, and the busses up to MK?
Magic Kingdom 4th fireworks, parade, and topped off with....a fight between adults who should know better
We went with some neighbors to MK today, so there were 4 of us adults and two 9 year olds in a double stroller. We had a great spot on Liberty square to see the fireworks and Starlight, and then after the parade passed we started heading out. The path we took managed to get us ahead of the parade again and so we were waiting in the crush by the flag poles.
An older man (maybe mid-50s?) was working his way upstream and excusing himself(according to my wife that was in the front of our group) as he passed in front of us then to our right. Somewhere there he must have bumped over a small child, because as he was passing my shoulder a woman screamed at him something along the lines of, "you need to watch where you're going, you just knocked over my daughter". He turned back and (more frustrated than apologetic) yelled back, "look I'm sorry".
That's when another man (apparently with the woman) came flying in out of nowhere - with a young child on his shoulders, no less - to punch the first man in the face. He punches back, and the second guy stumbles back with the kid on his shoulders nearly falling and starts crying. This brought in 3-4 more adults from the second guys group throwing me punches.
All this was in just 5-10 seconds or so, starting literally right next to us, but we wasted no time putting as much space between the stroller and the mayhem as possible. Some people were trying to split people up but because of the sheer mass of people it was another 30 seconds or so before any cast members got involved.
No idea what happened after, but presumably some vacations are ending early with trespasses at minimum and likely criminal charges. All because grown adults can't regulate themselves in a crowd
ETA: it's fascinating that many people are getting hung up on the two 9 year old in a stroller aspect, so let me shed some additional light in it for those that are curious. My daughter has Down Syndrome (which means low muscle tone) and ASD (which for her includes sensory issues for new seats). We are locals and go frequently, so around 4 years ago we sought out the highest weight-limit stroller we could to accommodate her getting older while still letting her feel like other kids. Over the years we've worked in moving away from needing to use it so the vast majority of our visits were keep short and she walks, but for the occasional late night with a lot of sitting in place (like fireworks) we still bring it for her. Since we had it and it had the space, we also let her friend sit in with her after the parade while we headed out, precisely because of the crush of people.
Where to find?
Hi all, I am looking for Mickey ears with the movable skyliners within each ear. The attached photo is from Google. Anyone know where I can find these?
Edited to add: where in the PARKS can I find these? I have an upcoming trip.
Question about parking on check out day
So I’m a local and an AP. What I usually do if I stay overnight is park at the hotel and then on check out day, load up my car in the morning and hit the parks before I drive back home around 4 or 5 o’clock. Is that gonna be an issue with the new transportation rules? Am I allowed to use the Disney buses and leave my car in the resort parking lot after the system checks me out at 11? Or am I gonna get in trouble? 😅
