I walked under the New River Gorge Bridge — 876 feet up, clipped to a catwalk

I finally did the Bridge Walk at New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia, and it was way more intense than I expected.

You’re walking on a narrow catwalk underneath the road, clipped into a safety line, with cars passing above you and the river way down below. The bridge is 3,030 feet long and 876 feet above the New River, so once you’re out there, the height really hits you.

The weirdest part wasn’t even the height at first — it was hearing traffic right above me while standing on that little catwalk over all that open air.

Be honest: would you do the Bridge Walk, or would the overlook be enough for you?

I went to Point Pleasant for the Mothman legend — the weirdest part wasn’t the statue

I finally visited Point Pleasant, West Virginia to see the Mothman Museum, the statue, and some of the Silver Bridge history.

I expected it to feel touristy, but the whole town had a stranger vibe than I thought it would. The museum mixes folklore, eyewitness stories, old newspaper clippings, Men in Black stuff, and the bridge tragedy all in one place, which made it feel less like a simple monster story and more like a weird piece of Appalachian history.

For anyone who knows the Mothman legend better than I do: what part of the story do you think is the creepiest, strangest, or hardest to explain?

Inside the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant — this thing is way bigger in person than I expected.

[OC] Walking the catwalk under the New River Gorge Bridge, New River Gorge National Park, West Virginia, USA

I did the Bridge Walk at New River Gorge and was not fully prepared for how high it feels once you’re actually under the bridge.

You’re clipped into a safety line on a narrow catwalk with cars going over you and the river way below. The view was incredible, but I can completely understand why some people would take one look and say nope.

Would you do this, or would the overlook be enough?
