mine is when it's obvious that the author doesn't really know much about a specific and relevant aspect of their fic. a specific example (and the inspo behind this post) is a fic in which a detailed, porous dildo is CONSTANTLY described as being made of plastic as opposed to silicone; dildos made of plastic with a detailed and porous design is a VERY bad mix 😖

(context im a trans guy); basically i watched heated rivalry recently, and i've developed a hyperfixation on the show (thanks ADHD), especially so on the character shane hollander. i find his neurodiverse traits really relatable and i also just really enjoy his character, and i really enjoyed the way hudson williams took on the character. in short, i'm in love with the show, and shane is my favorite character from it, hands-down.

i wanna change my discord PFP to him, but i'm hesitating really bad because most of the people in the fandom (and subsequently those who have PFPs of characters from the show) are women. because of that, my brain is doing some crazy mental gymnastics that equate having shane as my PFP to being emasculated/appearing as a woman, even though shane is a very masculine guy.

this is in regards to an AU for my own original characters.

i'm basically trying to do a modern + present day conversion of the canon events that follow two of my characters becoming a pair. in this AU, i was planning on having the two of them catch up and talk casually in a gay club, before another dude at the club pays the two of them to make out for $50 for funsies. this makes the energy between the two of them more tense and they eventually bite the bullet and, well, do something about it (for lack of better term).

is this something that would realistically happen in a gay club (or any club for that matter)? not that realism matters COMPLETELY to me (after all, the main goal is just to get them to the point of hooking up like in the canon plotline), but there's still a part of me that doesn't want to write/plan anything that is clearly just to serve that purpose, if that makes sense. i dont wanna be too lazy, lol.

any insight, criticism, or wisdom would be appreciated :p! and im more than happy to answer any questions about the AU or canon/original plotline to better contextualize this scenario and my intentions with it.

first person who messages me has no discerable info. i ask him if he's cis. he goes "what's that?" so i basically already have my answer but i take the liberty to quickly explain that "cis = not trans" and i'm not interested in having relations with cis people due to all my past romantic and sexual experiences with them being bad. this fucking tea towel goes "will would this change your mind?" and sends me his fucking album of nudes. the conversation follows:

DAMN RIGHT IM GONNA BE "MEAN" YOU MORON! there's 5289 different signs on my profile alone that will indicate to you that i am not interested, and i KINDLY reject you and even explain my reasoning, and when you purposefully push my boundaries and i'm not a doormat about it all of a sudden I'M MEAN???? go fuck yourself bro!!

i've gotten a few more messages since then, all of them from cis people. im beyond annoyed. i've seen better reading comprehension skills in my F-student classmates from when i was in high school. jfc.
