Pridelands Could Have Been a Prime Opportunity for a Red XIII Appearance

Pridelands Could Have Been a Prime Opportunity for a Red XIII Appearance

Something I just recently thought of: Pridelands in KH2 would have been a great opportunity to have Red XIII make an appearance, would it not have? Possibly even as an optional boss?

I should preface this by saying that I know very little about Final Fantasy or Red. So if I'm completely off, please politely tell me.

But story-wise, I feel like it could be played off like he's wanting to test Sora to help Sora grow stronger. So lore-wise, the boss fight would be them sparring, not actually fighting to the death. Location-wise, I think it could take place any time after the Scar fight, in Wildebeest Valley. Specifically the more open half of that room (which is a flat, open space perfectly sized to be a boss arena), with the rocky half of the room being closed off by a barrier during the fight (to prevent you from relying on the rocks for cover). Red would be hanging out by the lone rock where Scar has Simba wait in the movie, and you have to go up and talk to Red to trigger the fight.

What do you guys think? Could this have been fun, or no?

Nala Deserves to be in the Disney Princess Lineup

I get why she's not. She's a lion, and it's not really possible to turn that into a costume without just designing a human version of her, and a human version of her wouldn't be as recognizable.

I'm just sayin, Nala deserves far more rep than she gets, imo! She earns a spot in that brand, just like Scar earns his spot in the Disney Villain brand. I just wish Disney would at least recognize her as A member of the "Disney Princess" brand, even if she's not in the core lineup with the likes of Cinderella, Ariel and the like.

EDIT: A lot of people keep bringing up that Nala is never a princess. So I'm just going to respond to that criticism right here. Multiple Disney Princesses are never actually literal princesses. Most notably, Mulan. Being a literal princess at any point is NOT a requirement for being included in the Disney Princess brand. Realistically, the only reason why Nala is not included in the brand is because she is not human/humanoid, which IS a requirement.

How I Remember Which One's Huey, Dewey and Louie

I know some folks have trouble remembering which of the duck triplet is Huey, which one is Dewey and which one is Louie. I have a way to help myself remember. It's a bit random and somewhat contrived, but I figured I'd drop it here incase it helps anyone else keep em straight!

HUEY - Sounds like "hue", meaning color. Most digital color wheels start on red by default. Huey is the red one.

DEWEY - Sounds like "dew", which is water. Water is associated with blue. Dewey is the blue one.

LOUIE - Sounds like "Luigi", who wears green. Louie is the green one.

Like I said, it's a bit random and contrived. But it's worked for me, so I wanted to get it out there incase it could help anyone else^^

Columbo in the Lion King Universe

COLUMBO AS A LION: Aww, yeah, mister Scar. I heard about your brothuh's passing. Awful stuff. I can't imagine what you must be goin' t'rough. My wife's really big into successions. Can't get enough of em. And she tells me that with Mufasa and Simba both gone, you're da only one who can rule da Pridelands. Dat must be hard, rulin' a kingdom while dealin with all dat grief. All because Mufasa... fell off a cliff into a stampede, ya said? Terrible. Aah wait, sorry, you just said he died in a stampede. I got a little mixed up, cuz when I went down to da gorge, I noticed a buncha scratches along a cliff wall. And my boss, he says to me, he says "Gee, don't dat almost look like someone climbin up da wall, there." Aaaaah well, I'll get outta your mane.

Oh, there is one more thing. See, the lionesses and I were takin a look at Mufasa's body. And it's da weirdest thing. See, we found CLAW marks on him! But dat's weird, cuz wildebeests... they don't HAVE claws, they've got dem hooves. And I'll tell ya what's even weirder, you'll get a kick outta dis, you'll love dis.... da claw marks are on the BACK of his paws. And for the life'a me, I can't figure out how they got there! What about you? Got any ideas where those marks came from, Mistah Scar?

What Would Be Your Zany TLK Movie or Show?

I feel like doin a lil bit of a thought exercise, just to see what kinda crazy things folks come up with

Disney has decided that it wants to take the Lion King franchise in a drastically new direction, and they've decided to hire you to take the lead on this task. They've given you an unlimited budget to make a movie or television show, and they're giving you almost total creative freedom.

The only caveat is that they want you to go with the most bonkers, absolutely crazy idea that you can think of. A spacefaring adventure featuring Simba as a space pirate? They'll approve it. Shenzi hunting vampires? They'll approve that!

But whatever crazy idea you think of, you also want to make it a good movie/show in it's own right, without relying on making it "so-bad-it's-good".

What kinda idea do ya settle on, and how would you try to make it a good movie/show?

Geography of the Pridelands

Has anyone else wished that the geography of the Pridelands was a little clearer?

Like, the first movie gives us a great glimpse of various locations around the Pridelands, but doesn't really show us WHERE in the Pridelands those locations are. We've got the Gorge, and I suppose we can guess that it's somewhere near the western border of the Pridelands, given that Simba gets chased towards the sunset. But I don't believe we ever see that giant gorge again, and the movie never shows us where it is in relation to Pride Rock.

Or the outcropping that Scar is hanging out on when he tricks Simba into going to the Elephant Graveyard. I always assume that's on Pride Rock somewhere, but no image of Pride Rock has any areas where said outcropping would really fit.

Or the Elephant Graveyard, which is on the eastern border when Mufasa is showing Simba the Pridelands, but it stated by Scar as being on the northern border.

I know, it's a very trivial thing. But my brain naturally likes to be able to map things out, so that the world feels a bit more tactile to me, so it's always kinda bugged me that this isn't as well defined as I feel it could be!

Very Normal Running

I like to mod Lion Sora into the rest of the game for his mobility sometimes. And sometimes, I just have to take a minute to enjoy how silly his mechanics can be lol

What Time Period Would You Wanna See More Fleshed Out?

I'm mulling over the possibility of writing some fanfiction just to scratch my "I wanna explore the world of TLK" itch. But I'm still deciding on what time period I'd wanna explore if I did write something.

So I wanna ask, if YOU were to write something, what time period would YOU find most interesting to write about? With the number of time skips that occur throughout the franchise, there are quite a few time periods that could be fleshed out!

What's Your Must-Watch RomCom List?

I'm a huge fan of movies, but RomComs are a genre that I've mostly neglected. I figure I should probably remedy that. So I'd like to ask, what are some romcom movies that you would consider to be "required viewing"?

What Kind of Lifespans do You Imagine the TLK Characters Having?

https://preview.redd.it/8zvbx74yiwfh1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=954432d3e53affc7ff3612fb09307becf6cd3f48

I have always imagined the characters in "The Lion King" as having human lifespans, even though they're animals. But I've noticed in recent years that a lot of folks seem to assume the animals in "The Lion King" have the same lifespans as their real-world counterparts. So I wanna know, which lifespans do YOU imagine for them: Human or realistic?

To explain my reasoning for why I imagine them with human lifespans: I feel like it lends more weight to the story. The animated movies already take creative liberties and they already humanize the animals in service of the story. So I see it as pretty reasonable to assume that they've also humanized their lifespans as well. And by giving them human lifespans, it increases the scope of the story. Simba's exile becomes something that lasted for several years, which increases the emotional stakes for the characters, as well as the state of desperation that Scar's reign has brought to the Pridelands. And when Simba retakes the throne, he now has decades ahead of him, so the emotional impact of that payoff hits harder. I also simply find it a bit depressing to think that all these characters we all know and love only live as long as a real lion lives.

Did Anyone Else Wish We'd Gotten a Different Lion King Cartoon in the 90's?

Let me be clear: The point of this post is NOT to hate on the "Timon & Pumbaa" cartoon. It's great for what it is! It just wasn't really my cup of tea as a kid. I simply want to explain the show that I'D wanted as a kid, and see if anyone else had wanted something similar when they were kids!

The show that I'D wanted would have been an adventure show focusing on Simba and Nala's adventures around the Pridelands before Simba's exile. It would have been in kinda the same vein as the "Aladdin" and "Hercules" cartoons, and we would have gotten to see a lot more of the Pridelands and surrounding territories, as well as a bunch of new characters (including some recurring villains). Timeline wise, it probably would have occurred after the Elephant Graveyard sequence and before the Stampede sequence.

And I was aware, even as a kid, that there would be continuity issues with this, of course. But the "Hercules" cartoon ALSO has glaring continuity issues with the "Hercules" movie, and yet it's still a great adventure cartoon.

I know that now we have The Lion Guard, which is similar in many ways to what I've described, I'm just curious to see if any other kids felt the same way that I did back then^^ So did anyone else want somethin' like this as a 90's kid, or was I in the minority there?

Hardest Mandatory Bosses?

I've been a KH fan for a long time, but there are some games that I simply haven't had the opportunity to play. I'd like to fix that soon, but I want to get a sense of what sorts of difficulty hurtles lay before me vs the difficulty hurtles I've already overcome in the games I HAVE played.

So I wanna ask: In your guys' opinions, what are the most difficult mandatory boss fights in the franchise?

KH2 Lion Sora modding

I'm curious, for anyone here who plays Kingdom Hearts 2, do any of you like to mod Lion Sora into the rest of the game?

It's one of my preferred playstyles, personally. I just find it so fun to kick butt as an adorable lil furball with a case of the zoomies!

Though I feel like I'm the only one who plays the game this way very much, so I figured I'd see if anyone else does as well!

Which Character Has the Most Brutal "The World is Gaslighting Me" storyline?

Who would you say has the most brutal "the world itself is gaslighting me" storyline? Roxas at the beginning of KH2, or Truman Burbank in 'The Truman Show'?

I Wish They'd Give Pridelands Another Try

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but just hear me out.

We all know that Pridelands in KH2 is terrible. But IMO, the ways in which it sucks all stem from how that world was implemented, not from anything inherent to the actual property that world was based on. For whatever reason, they decided to set the world during the only time period in which the Pridelands would be boring to explore (maybe they thought that was the only way to work in a Scar boss fight or something). It's grey, it's empty, and of course, the lack of drive forms also brings it down.

But I have always felt that if they had actually done the Pridelands justice, it could have made for a brilliant world. ESPECIALLY now that they have the ability to make sprawling vibrant worlds that feel full of life.

So I just wanna put out my idea for how they could go about it if they ever were to try again. This new Pridelands world could be set between Lion King 1 and 2. The Pridelands themselves are lush and vibrant again, and the different animal factions have started moving back in. But tensions are still high between each of them; Scar's reign hurt a LOT of animals. And plus, Zira (the villain from the second movie) is trying to sew seeds of dissent across the Pridelands in order to turn everyone against Simba. So it's Sora's job is to help Simba restore the Circle of Life and forge new alliances with the various animal factions (possibly by completing various quests for them). Meanwhile, Zira is forming her own alliances, and you eventually have to bring your allies together against hers in a final assault. This approach to the world would push you to explore a Pridelands that's actually vibrant, lively and fun, while also giving Sora a vital role in a story that fills in a fairly major gap within the movie's timeline.

What do you guys think? Am I way off, or is there potential there?

Jack During the Barbossa Fight

I'm currently doing another KH2 playthrough, and I gotta ask. Does anyone else get frustrated at how, in the Barbossa fight, you have to keep Jack from dying?

Like, I'm not asking this as a way of being like "this is unfair!" because it's not. In fact, I quite like the fight. I'm asking because it's literally the opposite of what Jack should be like at that point in the story. He has JUST placed the curse upon himself, and he did so SPECIFICALLY because the curse makes you unable to die. And yet, this moment is the only time when you have to protect him from dying.

Like, I very much enjoy the Barbossa boss fight, it's just always irked me that they did the exact opposite of the curse with Jack. I get WHY they did it, I just kinda wish they'd figured out a way to add more challenge to the fight without breaking the lore.

Something I noticed about the Princesses of Heart

In Kingdom Hearts, it's canon that Alice from "Alice in Wonderland" has met several princesses. They were all kidnapped as part of Maleficent's plans. Though, Alice didn't seem all that impressed to be surrounded by royals; not even Maleficent's arch enemy, Aurora.

Now, I know what you're thinking.

"Aurora boring Alice? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within 'Kingdom Hearts'?"

Yes.

May you see it?

No.
