The day's thought

The day's thought

I tend to produce long journal entries. But lately I find myself looking for a single idea that can be condensed into a sentence on two which leads my entries. Sometimes they unlock further thoughts. At others, I let the thought stand on its own. It doesn't have to be anything deep. It is simply any thought that feels especially charged in the moment. Here is today's.

WTS - Custom Grinds Galore!!!

All conservatively rated. Shipping included within Canada. Outside Canada, let's chat.

US$260. Platinum 3776 Century 14K music nib [B] - Black with gold trim. Inked fewer about three times and seldom out of the case. Converter + box included. (link)

US$210. Platinum 3776 Century 14K broad ground to architect by Mark Bacas [B] - White with gold trim. Great line variation, and extremely smooth for a crisp architect. Converter + box included. (link)

US$180. Pilot Custom 74 14K soft medium ground to stub by Thomas Ang [B] - Clean. Thomas thinned the tines slightly from a soft medium, so it now writes as a semi-flex italic and is easy to use. Check the video for flex. Con-70 + box included. (link) SOLD

US$160. Pilot Falcon/Elabo 14K soft fine ground to needlepoint by Thomas Ang [C] - Previously listed. Priced down for the chipped cap (see pics). Resin body otherwise in very good shape. Writes finer than a UEF and wants a light hand. No converter, box included. (link) SOLD

US$160. Parker Sonnet 18K medium ground to stub by Mark Bacas [C] - One of my older pens and one of my best writers. Mark turned a good pen into a favourite. Best value here purely on the nib. Converter included, no box. (link)

US$120. Waterman Expert II steel fine ground to Blade Turk by Mark Bacas [C] - Owned for years. The grind gives a different line depending on the angle of the pen, and the writing sample shows some of the range. Converter included, no box. (link)

Interesting pause

Flawless execution but very interesting pause at the “f”. I tend to struggle with controlling the lower case f all the way, so this was fun to observe: link

WTS - Red Platinum President 18K Coarse Nib

  • Rating: A2
  • Price: US$250, shipping included within Canada.
  • Extras: Original packaging + converter
  • Comments: This arrived from Japan less than a week ago. I popped the cartridge in and tested it. Didn't like it. It's far too broad. It's got humongous tipping and is quite wet. Perfect pen for anyone who wants a pen to display ink properties or intends to get a cool grind from a nibmeister.

WTS - Pilot SF Elabo/Falcon Resin pen with Thomas Ang needlepoint grind

  • Rating: B for condition (small chip on cap). D for grind.
  • Price: US$220, shipping included within Canada.
  • Extras: Original packaging (no converter)
  • Comments: Pilot Elabo Red Resin, 14k, bought new under two years ago and lightly used. Thomas Ang ground it from soft fine to a needlepoint, which allows for great precision writing and drawing. (Writing samples and photos in link below.) The chip on the cap doesn't affect the seal. Selling to thin the collection. PayPal G&S, ships tracked.
  • Pictures and pen in hand video.

WTS - Platinum Century Laurel Green with Mark Bacas architect grind

  • Rating: D for grind. B+ otherwise
  • Price: $200
  • Tracked shipping: $20 (Happy to go halvies with you)
  • Extras: Converter and original packaging
  • Comments: The pen is in excellent condition. It writes with the typical Platinum feedback. This was originally a medium nib, so you are getting an architect from that. It's a gentle architect, not crisp. So no steep learning curve required. Price is because of grind (which Mark charges $60 for nowadays)

Wildlife and Walking

I recently moved to Fort Mac and have zero experience dealing with any kind of wild animals. I enjoy walking and would love to really get into it before winter arrives. I would even love to get into the trails. But I am paranoid about what is out there. This evening I was walking down Real Martin Drive towards the golf course. It was lovely and I felt I could keep going. But after a while it became quiet and all I could hear was the wind blowing through trees on both sides. I got very nervous thinking about bears, coyotes and who knows what. So I decided to turn around.

So my question is this: Are there training programmes where one can learn how to become outdoors smart? Or perhaps there are groups I can join to become wiser about the great outdoors?

Newcomer. How do I find a short term lease?

As the title says, I just arrived in town and am currently in an Airbnb. Eventually I intend to get something permanent and long term, but for the next few months I would like a place that I can rent monthly. I would appreciate advice on how to go about finding this sort of property.
