Company just racked up a £300,000 bill in AI token use for the month of June so they are now completely switching off most AI tools being used

I am absolutely loving this so much that they are now in the ‘finding out’ stage of AI

Since the beginning of the year, the company that I work for has been shoving AI down our throats like it was literal air. Everyone had a performance indicator in relation to AI as part of our performance reviews.

After months of making us spending large amounts of time build pointless agents just to say that everyone is using AI just for the sake of it, this morning we just got an internal memo that most AI tools have now been completely switched off for the entire company except for a couple of agents used by execs.

I spoke about this to a close friend of mine who is married to a someone who works in finance at my company and she mentioned that it was because AI use racked up a £300,000 bill in token use. And this is for a smaller company, about 500 staff members. We aren’t a big company with thousands of people.

I just couldn’t stop smiling the whole time.

I just can’t wait for the bubble to burst now, it is absolutely not realistic for AI companies to expect the regular company to foot the enormous bill needed to upkeep AI.

Anyways, would love to hear any similar stories of AI backfiring in the your workplaces :-)
