Looking at the data, it seems that there’s a significant rearrangement of votes on the conservative side of the political spectrum, with CDU and FDP voters shifting to the AfD (with younger voters less loyal to the establishment parties). AfD vote share seems highest among those with a (self-described) poor financial situation. Stopping oil exports would be pretty regarded anyway given that US refineries are dependent on imported heavy crude, and that the West Coast is dependent on gasoline imported from Asia. Better to institute a windfall profits tax and use the proceeds to ensure a minimum allocation of fuel for everyone.
