After seeing a lot of Needful Things posts I finally read it

And holy mother of god did it get crazy at the end. The progression of “this is fine” to “this is very much not fine” surprised me even as someone who’s been a Stephen King reader for awhile. The entire book was a great use of a demonic entity.

At the beginning I figured “okay random demon who’s giving people what they want it’ll be fine” but no. Progressed into “random demon who’s not only giving people what they want but is ending an entire town” very quickly and I loved it. Perfectly good use of an entity that’ll do whatever it wants.

I suspect one of my old silver fillings is biting the dust and i of course can’t immediately afford to fix it.

Like many millennials I have the old school silver fillings. With maybe 1 or 2 exceptions they’re pretty much all 20 years old at this point (they can nearly buy a beer lol) and they typically start to fail after 15. I have a new job starting in the middle of next month so it’s not like I’m doing to lose a molar before I can replace the filling but man do I wish my parents hadn’t signed me up for these starting at 16. Here’s to getting minor dental work in the not so distant future.

What ways do you wish families were supported through funeral planning that didn’t involve you?

My boyfriend’s grandfather passed in his sleep and was found this morning. Between dementia (which he’s had pretty much our entire 7 year relationship), cancer, a stroke a few months ago, and alcohol abuse it wasn’t an entirely unexpected death. The hospice nurse warned them early last week he wasn’t expected to live past Saturday. My grandmother planned my grandfather’s funeral (which I’m assuming the Marine Corps paid for since he’s in a national cemetery) and my other grandfather preplanned his so we just called the funeral home and told them to come get him.

I’m honestly not sure how to support my boyfriend through this. I know the hospice they were using did what they needed to do and he was picked up by a funeral home a few hours after he was found dead (he was found at 6:45 am and picked up at 1:15 pm). Obviously people like you guys will do most of the work because it is your job after all but I’d love to know if there’s anything you guys wish you saw more that doesn’t involve your profession.
