Anyone else still being bombarded by census ads and reminders?

We did ours on that same morning (even though I was tempted to do it a week beforehand), but it seems like I can’t escape from reddit or FTA ads..

Why?

I wonder if they’ve made the character of Mrs Hall a little too perfect?

She’s the perfect housekeeper, and friend and confidante to all.

She sacrifices what could be her personal happiness (with Gerald) to remain at Skeldale House and then later leaves (for a few short years) just to help Edward and his young family..

I’ve seen the hopes and arguments for her to eventually end up with Siegfried but it’s hard to see how he (or frankly, any man) would even deserve such a paragon (the way the writers have developed her character to this point).

What do you think?

What are early retirees doing with their time in Canberra?

Are you volunteering or joining community groups? And where?

Commiserations to all the English fans..

Still can’t quite believe Argentina turned that around in the second half!

I tend to use varieties of the same vegetables interchangeably but this time it didn’t quite work..

Onions are my prime example. I like the red (Spanish) onion a lot and I’ll use them instead of white or brown onions because I like that sweetness it imparts to my dishes. Same with potatoes on the whole.

This time, I wanted to use up some purple carrots I had in my fridge into a one pot whole chicken soup dish that’s been simmering away on my stove top for the last couple of hours.. The broth is purple!!

Still tastes great though but it was certainly a choice.. don’t know why it didn’t occur to me that this would happen, haha..

Still loving my Zermatts for winter

Zermatt Wool Felt in Eggshell

Bought these last year and practically lived in them from late Autumn to early Spring.

I took a chance on the colour since so many reviews said that it gets dirty easily but I’ve kept them clean even though I didn’t use any protectants or have even washed or wiped them down ever.

I use these around the home or to walk down to the shops to get milk or bread. I’ve even worn them to the pub nearby because they don’t look like the average house slippers, haha

I’m normally a 39 N in Arizonas and Mayaris, but I got these in a 38 N like my Bostons. They’re a very generous fit.

What is that random or unexpected “and a dash of..” that elevates your dish?

I’ve been adding a dash of soy sauce to various savoury dishes over the past few years and it seems to just add a punch of flavour and depth that was missing.

It made me wonder what else I could be adding to other dishes that’s doesn’t necessarily really belong there but elevates a good dish into something amazing..

Second car crash in less than a week in the same spot on Eyre St Kingston

It was only a few days ago that there was another similar 2 car collision. (Cnr Eyre and Leichhardt streets)

There’s normally at least one a month that I’ve come across (so probably even more that I just don’t see). It’s even more dangerous for pedestrians trying to cross.

A few of us around here have put in reports to the Fix My Street initiative with little success so far..

What other things could be done before we get a fatality?

My small coffee was the same size (yet double the price) as the bubbacinos I used to get for my kids a few years ago..

Walked down to the Kingston shops to get a coffee since I ran out of beans yesterday and came out with this tiny cup.

Bemused and poorer by $6.05 (for just a mocha with regular milk, nothing fancy), I actually started wondering about the prices in other areas of Canberra..

So what are you paying for a coffee these days at your regular cafe?

Came home to find it stuffed in our mailbox yesterday.

It’s that thin, I bet it has less pages than one of those free Canberra Weekly or Colesworth magazines..

Anyone still use them?
