Pickleball With Kids or Other Families?

I'd love to play pickleball with my kids and maybe with some other families but I'm not sure where to do it. When I've gone to public outdoor courts with community nets they seem to be dominated by large groups of older adults doing open play. You can rent an indoor court for what would be a low fee when split among 4 people but is quite a bit for just one parent. Does anyone play with kids or know of groups of families who'd like to play together?

MA Ranked As The Best State To Have A Baby And Raise A Family

I thought this was a nice surprise. They also posted related survey results a few months ago. I think we all appreciate the benefits of living here. I think for those of us on single incomes raising kids the cost of living is a pretty big challenge to raising a family in this state despite the general advantages of living here. I do wonder how many of us divorced folks end up having to leave because of the high cost once they're down to a single income.

Divorce and rebuilding your life afterwards is a challenge. But sometimes we get a win and it lifts our spirits. What wins did you have in the last week? Did you do something you wanted to do but would never have gotten to do in your marriage? Did you make a little progress on the slog of the divorce? Or did you maybe just get yourself a moment of treasured peace? Let's celebrate those wins together.

The Museum of Science Now Has a VR "Immersive Expedition"

This is new to me. It's a 30 minute "immersive expedition" through the age of the dinosaurs narrated by a virtual tour guide. It's for 8 years old and up, and the kids have to be at least 4 feet tall. It sounds like a fun reason to go to the MoS.

New England 50 Hikes With Kids by Wendy Gorton

I bought this book recently while I was on vacation in New Hampshire with my kids and we ended up doing two hikes from it right away. It's very well put together, with scavenger hunts for wildlife that you might spot on each trail, nearby bathrooms and treats, and the best times of year to go. I've tried finding group kid-friendly hikes using just AllTrails and I've found it to be tougher than expected so I really appreciated this book.

Does anyone have experiences with the hikes in this book, or other good resources for planning kid-friendly hikes around the area?

Mass. senators propose 'fun agenda' to revitalize nightlife and recreation across state

The proposal includes measures such as allowing happy hour, extending last call, and making public drinking districts permanent.

In addition, the plan suggests capping the resale price of concert tickets to make them more affordable and offering micro-grants to help artists and performers host gigs.

The agenda also aims to expand support for agritourism, create a state-level office of outdoor recreation, and improve access to hiking trails.

Staycation ideas with tween

I’m a solo parent and can’t take a ton of time off from work this summer, and I’m also trying not to spend a lot. But I still want to make summer feel fun and memorable for my tween son.

I’m looking for things to do in or near MA that feel a little different from the usual weekend, ideally without needing an overnight stay. We’re on the North Shore.

So far, I have:

  • Great Wolf (Have a promocode through my employer and weeknights were around $150 when I looked)
  • Basketball Hall of Fame (Anything else out around that way worth checking out?)
  • Ferry to Provincetown or MV for the day or a whale watch?
  • Train to Old Orchard Beach for a day
  • Red Sox game
  • Drive-in (either Mendon or Milford, NH)
