Collection attempts after discharge for unknown medical debt at filing?

I filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy in February and received a no-asset discharge (in MA).

Before filing, I had a doctor’s appointment scheduled. The day before the visit, the office told me they no longer accepted my insurance and would need to cancel unless I paid out of pocket. I agreed to cancel and assumed that was the end of it.

A few weeks ago, the office emailed me saying they were sending a balance to collections. I had never received a bill or notice before that. I then learned they were charging me a cancellation fee because I had not given 48 hours’ notice, even though they were the ones who contacted me the day before because they no longer accepted my insurance.

I disputed the charge, but they continued to insist I owed it. I sent them my bankruptcy discharge paperwork. They now claim the debt is not covered because they were not specifically listed in the bankruptcy, and they have started calling me daily. I really don't want to pay them on principle, but don't want anything going to collections. Do I have any recourse?

Not so much hot flashes, but skin is cold to the touch and face is dripping with sweat lately when I don't feel like there's air circulating around me

I get weird what I think may be hot flashes, only my skin is ice cold to the touch and my face (nowhere else) drips with sweat. Does anyone else experience this?!

This has happened a few times, usually while running errands solo or with my child, but yesterday was the absolute worst! I was spending the day shopping with a friend without kids for the first time in what feels like a lifetime and anytime we went into a store that felt like it didn't have air circulating, my face would just drip with sweat, but my skin was cold to the touch. I never get a hot feeling, just the feeling like there's no air and instant sweat. I have an appointment next month and am hoping I can get on some sort of HRT, but in the meantime I'm wondering if anyone else gets the pleasure of dealing with this and if anything has worked for you?

Tier One Support for New Term?

I am an existing student and my mentor has been on vacation more than they have been in this summer. They did proactively reach out to tell me to connect with another while they're out to make sure I was good to start my term yesterday, however that mentor never responded. My mentor is not back until Tuesday and all of their available appointments do not work with my schedule. I emailed Tier One yesterday (around 1PM MT) and included the email from my mentor and the emails to the covering mentor but still have not heard back. I am determined to accelerate and finish my program this term and was hoping to get started while I had time today. Will Tier One open a term??

Coparents expectations do not meet the level of their of participation

Brief history, child is 11 and born from a relationship that occurred concurrently with coparents other relationship (they were really good at living a double life and their friends and family said nothing - keep in mind they were also a mid-30's professional, so definitely old enough to know better!). By their choice, they married the other person while I was pregnant, did not tell them (I completely stopped talking to him once he made up his mind not to participate in our child's life). That lasted for 4 years.

Fast forward to now 6+ years after they became an active part of child's life - they resent me, blame me anytime their spouse has a bad day, etc. I no longer entertain any of that talk. This man is still not on our child's birth certificate, again by choice, gives no support (occasionally has helped pay for extracurriculars, sparingly), owns a home but child has no bed or belongings there, in fact child has only ever spent one overnight at their home. I send child with a change of clothes, swimsuit - even a flipping towel!

After a lot of therapy I am now of the mindset that I can only control what happens in my own home. I cannot force someone to recognize what they are unable or unwilling to see. BUT he problem I have is that coparent has very high expectations for someone with such little participation and even though I know I can't force them to see it, I am tired of this continuous loop he has us in.

For the past few years once summer comes, he tells our child that they are going to go with them on their week plus long family vacation. Child has never slept outside of my house aside from the one night at theirs. I have said it every which way possible - why not start out with a weekend at your house first to ease them into it? They ignore it. Instead, they asked for more time during the week during the summer so they can spend time with their sibling, but coparent works during the day in an office and somehow expect me to have so much flexibility with my work that I need to bring child during the day because I work from home. If I can't, his wife stops her work to come and pick up. Now that they have vacation plans he thinks child should go away for ten days starting next week and thinks I am influencing them to say no. He absolutely refuses to see what is in front of him! I genuinely believe in his head he is doing more than he is. I feel like I have to walk on eggshells with this man but am so fed up!!!!

Edited to add: Child does not want to go, nor are they going. I am just sick of the same yearly pattern where coparent says they want child to go away, then they do nothing to make child feel more comfortable with the idea of going at any point and act like I am influencing child's decision.

Staycation ideas with tween

I’m a solo parent and can’t take a ton of time off from work this summer, and I’m also trying not to spend a lot. But I still want to make summer feel fun and memorable for my tween son.

I’m looking for things to do in or near MA that feel a little different from the usual weekend, ideally without needing an overnight stay. We’re on the North Shore.

So far, I have:

  • Great Wolf (Have a promocode through my employer and weeknights were around $150 when I looked)
  • Basketball Hall of Fame (Anything else out around that way worth checking out?)
  • Ferry to Provincetown or MV for the day or a whale watch?
  • Train to Old Orchard Beach for a day
  • Red Sox game
  • Drive-in (either Mendon or Milford, NH)

Love our dog but regret getting her

Our maltipoo is 13 months old (20lbs), we got her in September (not from a breeder or rescue, she was an 'ooops' after a relative of someone I work brought a poodle home before having it or their maltese spayed/neutered and the separate/watch them method did not work)

She has always been a bit too smart for her own good and great at finding ways to get what she wants. So much so, she has gone through group training and individual training with someone who specializes in behavior because she has possessive aggression with stolen items which seemed to get better, but now she's guarding me! I'm not sure if it could be separation anxiety.

I had an overnight stay in the hospital a few weeks ago and it seems to have made something surface. She's been barking whenever someone is near me, if they get closer she'll growl and eventually snap if they don't back off.I honestly don't get the appeal! I'm not the only one that feeds, walks, or plays with her!!! I do work from home while my spouse is in an office setting and tween goes to school (but they're on summer break) and she sleeps in a crate in my tweens room, but apparently, one night out of the house has her acting up more than ever.

I called a different trainer and have a vet appointment (we already went to the vet before to rule out physical reasons for her behavior and got nowhere, now I'm wondering if she needs some sort of anxiety meds or something).

I have spend a few thousand on training already and I don't have more to spend. I mentioned something in a FB group and they suggested more physical and mental stimulation but she goes on at least 3 walks a day, gets puzzles/snuffle mats at least once a day, has access to our yard to sniff til her heart's content, we all play with her every day, and the rest is her sleeping or eating.

Is there help for biting?!

I brought home a pup in September and she's now 13 months old. She's part of a multigenerational home, with my tween son, my parents, and myself. She has a routine, sleeps well, has been checked out by the vet, is up to date on vaccines. For the most part she's contained to dog-friendly parts of the home, has lots of toys, does puzzles daily, I try to hide treats so she can keep her nose occupied and tire herself out, etc. I am starting to think I may need to consider rehoming her and that will absolutely break my tween.

She is great 85 of the time. The other 10% she's annoying because she loves to be like velcro, and the last 5% of the time she loves to find mischief, like getting a sock, paper napkin, or other prohibited item and bringing it to her bed. Since about 7 months old, if you go near her when she's into her mischief making, she snarls, get any closer and she growls. If she thinks you're going in for the item then she bites and barks. I had a trainer come to the house and she does well with commands until she's in her mischief making mayhem, then it's like all bets are off and she doesn't hear a thing. The trainer suggested basically bribing her to distract her, which helped for a bit, but that doesn't seem to be working as well. Is there any way to stop the biting?! Could meds help?

Where to stay with kids in Old Orchard Beach if traveling by train

My tween is interested in taking the train to Old Orchard Beach for a mini vacation, and I'm wondering if it's a destination that I can get by without a car and where do you recommend someone arriving by train stays? Best things to do with a tween while there? Appreciate your time!

New (and last) term starts 8/1 and no charges posted and how long has financial aid been taking lately

I'm in a graduate program (I also completed my undergraduate degree with WGU), and my final term starts on 8/1. However, no tuition charges have been posted to my account yet. My company requires me to submit my tuition reimbursement request before the term begins, and it also needs my manager's approval. Since my manager will be out for the last two weeks of July, I'm concerned about the delay. This is the first time my tuition charges haven't been posted at least a month before the start of my next term.

Also, even though I pay cash, I need to show my financial aid award along with my grades (to prove I didn't get a scholarship or grant),so I'm curious how long financial aid has been taking lately. I have a feeling I'm going to knock out my final courses before financial aid processes, which will delay my reimbursement.

When are expenses paid out?

I submitted a reimbursement/expense report, and it has already gone through the system and approved. It was extracted for payment on Monday, but it wasn't included in my paycheck. Are expenses considered supplemental pay or should I expect it in my next paycheck? This is the first time I've done this and my boss is away through the end of this week and if feels silly to ask their boss this question in their absence.

Coparent doesn't want to commit to plans with times

Has anyone had to deal with a coparent who wants to have more of a fluid visitation arrangement? Meaning, they don't even want to give a ballpark time for picking up child or expecting you to drop off.

Now that it's summer, coparent suddenly expressed interest in spending more time with our tween when they're not in camp/rec programs, which is fine, but they won't commit to specific days or times. To make it worse, when they do pick a day they won't give a time, just "morning" or "afternoon." It makes it increasingly difficult and frustrating for many reasons, mainly child can't go over a friend's house while they're on standby, on the days when I have a lot of meetings, my parents come over and they can't take child out and they've expressed that they feel like they're wasting time waiting for coparent. Also, I've been WFH for child's whole life, so we have a very good routine down and they are fairly independent in the sense that they can get themself dressed and ready, make an easy breakfast, occupy themself before any screen time, etc., but they're still a tween and when they get into doing something, they're not paying attention to the clock - Plus it's hard for them to be absolutely ready to walk out the door if they don't know the time that coparent is coming - so I have to be involved in the logistics of reminders like "Dad text to say he's on the way", but coparent can't fathom why I'd have to even say that to child since child "should be ready" (and they nixed my idea to get child a smart watch geared to kids so they could just be texting or calling them directly). I tried to bring it up to coparent but I get a "that's how I work and you'll just have to deal with it" response (and I can't get across enough just how much that makes my blood boil!)

To add: No formal custody arrangement and coparent is not on the birth certificate (I've stopped pushing for them to be at this point)

Tuition reimbursement documentation?

Due to an apparent rise in fraud, I was asked for a bank or credit card statement showing payment to my university for tuition reimbursement (apparently a new requirement), but I took out a student loan. Do you know if any other supporting documents are acceptable? [waiting to hear back from accounts payable/Concur]

Cap on raise for internal promotion?

I was asked whether I'd be interested in a promotion, which I would very much want if it meant a sizeable increase. I'd be going from a supervisory role in a 28 of a small team to a regional manager or director role in a 29, not entirely sure which, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to dumb down the previous person's position so it can be posted at a lower level to save money. My concern is that I have been underpaid, to the point that, before we joined Optum a couple of years ago, I was told I would receive an extra raise to bring me up to the *minimum of the salary band*. I'm trying to get ahead of this so I can be prepared if they make a low offer, and I'm wondering if there is an unwritten rule of a certain percentage for internal promotions??

Curious how others handle differences of opinion when tech is involved

Curious how others handle differences of opinion when tech is involved. My coparent is pushing for our child (almost 11) to be able to do things with friends without parents being there, like go to the park, bike rides, even sport practices, etc. to gain some independence, which I am all for, but I think they need a way to reach out in case of an emergency.

Coparent is adamant about not wanting child to have a smart watch (we're both in agreement about no phone). They feel child should be able to depend on their friends or friends' parents to text or call me if plans change, to confirm they got there, want to be picked up, etc. I don't think it's fair to put that responsibility on others.

I've considered adding a watch to my phone plan and only allowing child to wear it when they go out with friends but I know coparent would be livid.

My coparent let me know they're considering out of state, anywhere from 50 to 100+ miles away. I'm curious how others handle the logistics, because they're expecting me to spend 2 to 4+ hours driving our child down each week, and I don't agree, but I could definitely be wrong. In their eyes, this is a compromise to moving down south because they expected me to move right alongside them and their family... Ha! I'm curious to know how others are handling it?
