I keep thinking about Vox looking mildly inconvenienced whenever Val or Al physically hurt him. I, of course, understand that it is a cartoon, but even for a cartoon character he seems to be oddly unbothered by any physical injuries inflicted upon him.

Unskillful trolling seems to get more of a reaction out of him than literally being torn apart.

I occasionally stumble upon the "from rugs in life to riches in hell" theories about different characters, and I just cannot see it happening.

Thing is, to become an overlord you need to quickly - quickly within reason - find enough WILLING (reminder that, despite the neverending jokes about Hell's slavery in the fandom, soul contracts are NOT akin to slavery, there's no reason to believe you can point a gun at a sinner and make them sell you their soul forcefully) soul contractees.

So I think most overlords manifested in hell WITH a number of people already devoted to them to give them a headstart. They were likely ALREADY masters in their domains (Rosie a mayor, Velvette an influencer, Carmilla in a weapon business, Valentino a director, etc.)

Obviously there are STILL a lot of people out there that have devoted following, so they would still need luck & continue to demonstrate work ethic, charisma, and so on, in death. AND they would likely need... a. some of their following to die WITH THEM, so that they can get powers and thus stay safe from harm & impress people who do not know them yet; b. a helpful sinner form (probably it's difficult to make people sell you their souls if you look like a couch) - so this would narrow the pool of potential big time overlords, too.

Sorry, the idea that someone died a complete loser with zero friends and managed to rise to the overlord status is just not it. Hell would eat them alive; an overlord that knows what they're doing & got a headstart from their lifetime following selling them their souls would get them under a contract or into a deal before they would manage to read the book on how to make friends and influence people™.
