Anti Mosquito Clothing (non-chemical)

Anti Mosquito Clothing (non-chemical)

I know that tightly woven fabrics can protect against mosquitoes

And I've found a couple of brands that claim to do this - Rynoskin and Royal Robbins with one being an undergarment and the other being fashionable outerwear.

Does anyone have experience with these things? Any recommendations?

My goal is to be able to hike through some marshy areas and not get eaten. To use as little of the chemical stuff as I can. Especially in the heat when the bugs are at their worst.

I tried a sun shirt (SPF long sleeved hoodie) thinking that maybe it would work but I got 2 mosquito bites through the shirt within a few minutes.

Recommend albums (let's travel)

I'm sick of the algorithm - recommend albums

Take me around the world

Take me through the decades

Take me in to your musical world

Introduce me to an artist / genre

Recommend full albums ("greatest hits" are very much welcome)

Tell me what you love about it

Tell me what you think I need to know about it (put me in a time & place)

Edit: Incredibly grateful to all of you who are introducing me to new music. I'm going to bed soon, I look forward to exploring more in the coming days / weeks / months / years / decades. This is the beginning of a journey and I appreciate all of you.

The Matrix was right - life before AI was peak “human” civilization

life after AI is no longer human civilization. maybe 1999 isn’t what you or I would find ideal, but it is the time when our brains were amenable to abstractions such as “the internet” but still everything we created was human.

life after AI is no longer “human” civilization - AI art and everything else means that from this moment on, nothing we experience is guaranteed to be free from AI, including the opinions of humans we meet.

Help me choose an ereader - light weight, durable, no lock-in

I've recently suffered an injury and want to get an ereader to lighten my load. This is for daily (commute) use as well as for taking hiking & reading at home. This will be my first ereader.

My criteria are

  • Light weight while still being comfortable to read (single hand / 6 inch?) - every gram matters (I'm even thinking of getting a new wallet - I'm very serious about this)
  • Durable enough to take wherever I'd take a book / will last (case recommendations welcome too)
  • Physical page turn buttons, I sometimes read when it's freezing cold out with mittens on
  • A warm-toned backlight for reading after dark (I'm also assuming I can do inverted colors to minimize the amount of light coming off the screen?)
  • No calling "the mother ship" / no ads / no lock-in / compatible with whatever I throw at it
  • I don't need audiobooks (I have a phone)
  • I'm mostly reading text - I wouldn't mind if the screen was good enough for Manga (I'd pay $$ for it but not grams)
  • I'm fine with "all day" battery life rather than "all week" battery life

I'm willing to pay for something that works well for me and will last me for years to come.

I suspect "light weight" vs "durable with page turn buttons" are going to be the biggest tradeoffs I'll have to make.

Any opinions on stuff like thickness vs weight welcome - anything related to ergonomics.

Thank you.

Previous discussions (none of these quite get to what I want, but here in case anyone wants to look)

Edit: I got the Xteink X4 - "light weight" won over durable + backlight.

Canceling Audible - what should I use my remaining credits on?

I've started reading more paper books so I'm canceling my Audible account. From what I understand, any books I've purchased stay in my account. Any credits disappear.

So I need to find 17 (edit: 11) audiobooks :)

I'll post a comment with some recent (audio) books I've liked to give you a sense of what I like - but feel free to recommend from any genre.

What book is, unintentionally, deeply philosophical?

>Joy's soul likes in the doing. - William Shakespeare

This text adorns the copyright page of the Joy of Cooking.

I'm not sure the Joy of Cooking qualifies for my question, but surely there are books that have struck you as deeply philosophical, without that being the intention.

How has humans' role as predators / prey affected human psychology?

"As prey animals, horses are sensitive to signs of potential danger and can easily become distressed."*

I can easily become distressed.

Humans are excellent predators - but mostly rely on tools and groups for hunting.

Individually we're quite vulnerable, with no built-in weapons or defenses and all of our squishy bits at our front.

What is the conjecture / research into how this has affected our psychology?

*Source

Edit: Fully acknowledging that humans aren't "prey" animals, I meant that we don't have the physical characteristics associated with predator animals (maybe eyes at the front of our heads) such as thick fur, claws or fangs. How does "being predators who are soft and squishy" affect our psychology" may be better.
