Hello! My partner and I are looking to hike the Slough Creek trail up to the first meadow (between the two red lines on the map, a 3.4mi round trip) on September 28th or 29th. We would like to find at least two more people to join us, since I’ve heard the more people, the better, for bear safety! Ideally, someone who is experienced hiking in bear country.

We would go at a slow pace, and I have to sit down for a bit every 5-10 minutes (I have a portable seat), so we’re looking for folks who wouldn’t mind taking it slow. More time to stop and appreciate the scenery :) We will also carry bear spray and a satellite phone for safety. Please let me know if anyone is interested in tagging along!

Additionally, if you know of any other places where people find hiking buddies that I can share this to, lmk!

We would also be willing to pay for a private tour guide if anyone knows of reasonably priced services for that. $900 is a bit out of our budget 😅

I’m a huge fan of the game Wolfquest, and in the game there is a 1:1 recreation of part of Slough Creek that I would absolutely love to see. The developer of the game has climbed up “Little Butte” (idk if it’s actually called that IRL or if that’s a nickname from the game), you can see at the beginning of the video below:

But from what I see of maps of the trail around there, it doesn’t look like one goes up to the butte. And this guy is known for being kind of a madman and going off trail, which I probably wouldn’t do, unless it’s easy... Can anyone who has done this hike tell me if it’s doable for a reasonable person to climb up the butte?

Also wondering if the Slough Creek trail has many people around in late September. Or bear sightings. We will be a group of 2 or 3 and are worried about being somewhere very remote because of bears. We are mostly sticking to more populated areas for that reason, but this specific spot is very important for me so I want to try to get there if I can. Any tips for the safety aspect?

I found this cat on my local Humane Society’s website. Is there a genetic explanation for the way she is?

I’m so glad there’s a cat ball subreddit. This cat belongs to someone in my neighborhood, but I just saw him mounting a female cat I didn’t recognize. I will do my best to get her spayed if she needs it, but in the mean time, do you guys think this guy has balls? It doesn’t look like it to me, and I hear the owners are not the friendliest people, so I’d like to check before I potentially anger them lol.
