SteamOS 3.8 PC vs. Bazzite - Benefits?

I have been using Bazzite since November. There have been hiccups, but there has also been a lot of triumph and eye opening moments - specifically with how good gaming is on Linux now.

The goal was simple - build a DIY Steam Machine, and I did. But now it begs the question…

With SteamOS now dropping their PC version, is there actually a benefit to using it over Bazzite?

For the Bazzite-Bros who will eventually storm
this post…Save the Bazzite fanboy talk, I am aware of how it is and works - I want to hear legit reasons that SteamOS works better and in what use cases.

(I own a 9070xt coupled with an Intel 14600k for what it’s worth)

Please Help Me Install SteamOS So I Can Stop Using Bazzite

I have been trying all evening to install SteamOS, but it does NOT want to cooperate. I followed a few guides, most of which point to this version

https://steamdeck-images.steamos.cloud/steamdeck/20251027.1000/steamdeck-repair-main-20251027.1000-3.8.0.img.zip

I can get it to start spouting out linux text...but then it just reboots and goes in an endless loop of showing linux text and rebooting.

(I do have secure boot turned off too. and for what its worth I'm using a micro SD inside an adapter...which was fine for installing Bazzite and Windows)

My hardware is RX 9070XT + 14600K

UPDATE:
I managed to get this to work finally. The image I used ended up being 3.9, and when I used Balena Etcher I didn’t extract the zip, just selected it and bam - worked.

Only issue is I don’t think using that image was correct, as it shows there is an update to the newest 3.8 - but when I update and restart it doesn’t do anything. I’ll continue to tinker and see if I can get it to work.

It’ll be interesting to test the newest SteamOS out and see if it’s time to leave Bazzite.

So far the only thing I’ve noticed that is a problem is for whatever reason…VRR flicker is AWFUL on this install compared to Bazzite.
