Not exactly C but the concept of the stack

Not exactly C but the concept of the stack

I'm in my third year of happy C coding but I learned 6502 assembler in 1984 and now 70 years old. Therefore I often look at videos like: NES Mapper History to 1988 and Blaster Master Code Analysis - Talkin' Code Ep. 1

The mention of the stack made me think if the 6502 was had a bit of inspiration from C, but it was a lot older concept.

C is what it is, and we can’t change the way it’s been constructed.

When I started programming in C three years ago, I also had all kinds of opinions about its syntax and so on. It reminds me of Donald Sutherland talking about his beginning in the movies. He had read a script and told the instructor his opinions about this and that—the instructor replied, “Will you be in the movie or not?”

My English is bad, but to be clear, I really, really like C especially C99 for what it is and how things are working. I think some beginners struggle because they are no focusing enough and are using AI. Whatever one have to learn you have work diligently to learn a handcraft.

I was 67 when I started learning C, dyslectic issues, bad short memory and on a good day I might reach IQ 100. I have a decent understand of memory handling and have written a business application for my wife's business - a simple but working working GUI relational database with tables, querries, forms, reports on screen and paper and simple drawing program for upholstery - about 6000 lines of inefficient code and about 20 modules. The database current have about 4000 transactions.

Now I'm having fun writing retro games using raylib graphics also written in C99, when I'm not having fun hunting bugs in database.

Old vs new software

Almost every time I read about new versions of office software, I always think: What can the new software do that 20-year-old or even older software can't, and are these new features being used?

Is r/C_Programming weekly visitors lowering?

Today the weekly visitors are 69K, but I think it was way higher just a year ago - nearer 100K.

What's going on?

Newly discovered key combination

By accident I pressed Super Key + arrow key and the current window goes to that direction. At first I thought something went wrong but it's actually useful. So now I can see a part of the desktop depending of the arrow key.

Eco Mode for AMD CPUs

PC-Write, PC-Calc, PC-File

My entry in the PC world was as an IT teacher in 1987 and we used this 'office suite'.

The last few years my interest in programming got me into C99 the last three years. I'm near 70 and dyslectic, English is my second language but I enjoy IT. Now it's all about Linux Mint, Code::Blocks, Raylib graphics and it almost feels like good the old days.

I wonder if this suite's code was ever released because I think it was written in C.

Any help appreciated.

Does PCI with USB3 or SATA exist?

Although I'm a retro guy, I could use a bit higher transfer speed for data. Or maybe a PCI card with SATA...

Does such hardware exist?

Thanks in advance.

I built a 1999-2000 computer

Soltek 54U5 motherboard, 400 MHz AMD2, 1 GB RAM, 4.3 GB Seagate harddrive, S3 AGP graphics, Sound Blaster, Intel LAN, 2 serial ports, and 1 parallel port, 2 USB ports, AT and ATX power, PS/2 port, 3.5 inch 1.44 Mb floppy and 5.25 inch 1.2 MB floppy.

But the old hard drive stopped working along with the memory. I also had to replace the CPU to a 133 MHz Pentium, probably because the electrolytes need to be replaced. It was the good old days, where we could use CPU's from AMD, Cyrix, Intel and so on, on the same motherboard, because they all used socket 7 or super socket 7. We just had to change the setting by jumpers and dip switches and no need for TMP and other bad stuff. I have yet to see a virus change jumper settings... :o)

I ran a W98II on the drive, but now I have installed a DOS 6.22. It's working perfectly and I can start recovering the old backups from 1988-1989.

AOC screen most likely from 1998

Fujisu hard drive

Build on a newpaper

On/Off swithch, LEDS for hard drive and on

The power supply is very silent, but the hard drive and the CPU cooler are very noisy
