How do you think Mental Mutations actually work?

Physical mutations are much easier to understand. “Oh, I have 4 arms. Oh, I have quills like a porcupine. Oh, my ass claps so hard I generate electricity to the local lattice.” It’s pretty easy to understand how the physical mutations work.

But Mental mutations feel, essentially, like magic. But “mutation” implies that, in some way that they are interacting with the world in some way that should be able to be described with physics, chemistry, biology, etc. So how do you think they work?

I was thinking about Precognition when coming up with my question, so I’ll just talk about a fun way I Precognition works. I think it’s some sort of really protracted Déjà vu-esque reaction, where in some way you hallucinate an alternate-self’s experience. In some way, your mind has grown to attune to copies of it along branching timelines, and you can only follow one at a time.

I don’t know if my explanation is even meaningfully different from just saying “it’s magic” but I thought it might be fun to think about.

A follow-up to yesterday’s post, a suggested scene! In a new software, the discovering of Saad Amus’s clone in a garden deep beneath a baroque ruin

AngrySasquatch suggested this one, I loved it. Running into this guy again is initially terrifying.

Any suggestions? And a question; where do you like exploring the most? I think baroque ruins are the most fascinating but I’m curious where you go!

Some experimenting I did today with voxel work, made a scene from Qud!

Hey! Been playing around a lot with new software recently, did this little diorama as a voxel art experiment! Super fun, I liked designing the ruins in the background specifically. Might do another one honestly, if you have any suggestions let me know!

Made a little Dungeon Meshi inspired tile set, just some characters and monsters from the manga
