Buying a CPO Car - My experience (hope it helps others)
I recently went through this, and I see a lot of posts from people like me, so I thought I would list down everything here and hope it helps in one way or the other.
First up, the biggest handicap in a used car market is - there isn't really a benchmark price, meaning it is a function of what features you want, what is available, and what is the comparable inventory in the distance you want to explore in - while one does that, there is also an additional element of how long the car has been sitting on the lot, that can give some leverage
There is a long story of how I got to which car, but that's for a later time. I am starting from once I found a car online - on Porsche website.
I see this car, I liked the build, then I went to the dealers website and check if it matches as at times there are things which are kind of off -
first thing, I saved both the pages as PDF/Screenshots and downloaded the vehicle sticker and car fax - and
Then I sent an inquiry from the Porsche website to the dealer, I thought it sent a signal that I am a serious Porsche buyer and not just calling directly or inquiring from their website.
In the interim, I started looking at the same build nationwide and if there are similar cars with similar mileage and what's the pricepoint
In parallel, I looked up online the depreciation chart for Macan S and what could be the value of that Macan S if it was bought at the sticker price
I also used AI to find out the pricing nuances (Gemini was awesome, I also used Car Consul - but my experience with it has not been really thrilling)
I also put some questions on Reddit to get a fair idea from the Porsche Macan owners
I heard from the dealer, a salesperson reached out to me with a Build Sheet and Car Fax, inviting me to come over for a test drive - that location is 60 miles from my place, so I was obviously not going to go there.
