Looking for my next NAS

Hello Guys,

I'm looking for a replacement for my Synology 216 Play. My intended use would be:

  • Home file server accessible externally via SSL using a web terminal and Android app
  • Targeted synchronization of specific files across different devices (Windows PC, Android smartphone)
  • Online office suite, also accessible externally (at least via a web browser)
  • Syncing photos taken from my Android smartphone
  • Media server like Jellyphin or similar. High performance isn't necessary here, no 4K video transcoding, for example.
  • Docker installation capability
  • Encrypted cloud backup of photos/documents at a minimum, ideally the entire system (I'm willing to pay for this)
  • Two disks in RAID 1

Based on the various AI I've consulted, the logical next step would be to upgrade to a Synology 224+. However, its price makes me hesitate. I'm not against running my NAS on a Raspberry Pi or a mini PC, or even opting for a ready-made NAS from another brand. But what I really want is to avoid spending hours or days figuring out the configuration. I'm an IT engineer, so I have some technical knowledge, but I don't like spending my time on it at home. For your information, I have a static IP address at home.

Raviolis/Gyozas
