GMTK Game Jam 2026: My IGDB Additions and Thoughts

Link to the list on Backloggd.

The GMTK Game Jam 2026 has ended, becoming the biggest Game Jam of all time. Over 10.000 entries, making it bigger than the Global Game Jam (which allows AI Slop in their game submissions). Over half of the games submitted for this Game Jam were made in Godot, which pretty much shows that it has become the standard over Unity for small gamedevs. The theme for this Game Jam was Countdown, and you can check out entries through the following link.

This past week I've added over 20 (as of this point) games to IGDB that I've tried from this Jam. While average results have come out, showcasing many interesting games, Mark's own favourites from this Game Jam are still unclear. Nevertheless, I wanted to showcase some of these games that I've tried out and had fun with during this Game Jam. I also feel a bit guilty for putting them in a ranking instead of an unranked list, but I felt it was interesting to showcase my thoughts on each project. Some of them are a bit rough, as expected from any Game Jam title, so I apologize if you feel that my words are a bit harsh.

I will likely add some more games over the coming days or when Mark showcases some of his favourites, but hey, here are some of the little unknown projects that still deserve your attention!

If Hirohiko Araki was a Gamer: Giving Video Game Names to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Stands

Link to the list: https://backloggd.com/u/Turcobandido/list/if-hirohiko-araki-was-a-gamer-giving-video-game-names-to-jojos-bizarre-adventure-stands/ I recommend checking the list out if you want to check the stand names and equivalents to the real ones.

In the generational, almost 40-year-old manga series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, the characters' superpowers are called Stands, and they tend to have musical names. They usually reference bands, songs, and even musicians in some cases. It's been a trend for a long time, and a good chunk of the names reference the powers of the Stands in some way, shape, or form.

Well, what if we do the same but with video games?

Bit of a silly challenge overall, but I was bored, so here are practically all the important and relevant stands in the series in (I hope) order of appearance. Some of the names are very obvious, some of the names will be a bit stupid, some of the names won't make much sense, but hey, there's a bit of logic behind all of them.

As an added challenge, I tried not to repeat any franchise for stand names.

Y2K Shibuya-Kei-inspired Japan pop artstyles

Link to the list on Backloggd: https://backloggd.com/u/Turcobandido/list/y2k-shibuya-kei-inspired-japan-pop-artstyles-1/

What is Shibuya-Kei?
Shibuya-Kei is a music subgenre and subculture that originates from 90s Japan, specifically around Tokyo and its Shibuya Ward, known for being very cosmopolitan. This music style is known for mixing lots of different genres together, like jazz, pop, soul, or even techno music, with an aesthetic that normally tries to be playful. An example of a Shibuya-Kei song could be Love Together by Nona Reeves for the PaRappa the Rapper Anime.

I wanted to cover some games that use this same kind of pop-like cartoon art style with clear Japanese origins from the late 90s and 2000s that could be somewhat attributed to Shibuya-kei and that surrounding culture. This is not an exact science, and I could very well be misattributing some games and their art-style origins, but I felt this was a very interesting collection of games from similar artists who share some common traits.

Feel free to suggest some other games to add to this collection.
