"Steam" weapons

Earlier today I went into Leon Paul and asked for a "steam foil" with a leather-wrapped French grip. The sales assistant went to the back to put one together and, a few minutes later, handed me an electric one (with the correct grip). The correct foil was swiftly obtained when I specified that I meant "non-electric".

I wondered, therefore, if the term is not in as widely-used as I thought. I picked it up 30+ years ago when fencing in Scotland and assumed it was common. Do you still use it?

Year or sunrise/sunset widgets

Does anyone have any recommendations for FOSS apps which can provide widgets showing either of the following?

- The current day/week of the year.
- Sunrise and sunset times for a set location.

Varifocals for intermediate distances

At the moment I'm trying to get glasses made up to the prescription from my last test (December) and not having much luck. Finding frames was hard enough but lenses are also very difficult.
Normally I have used executive bifocals; these offer an excellent field of vision and are good for reading as well as intermediate distances, e.g. a laptop or car dashboard. They're hard to find so I'm being encouraged to try varifocals. The insets on commonly-available biofocals are too small.
The current varifocals have Essilor Varilux XR lenses. They work well at long distance but other than that they are very poor; I can't see all of a small (14") laptop screen or car instrument panel at once, moving my head causes annoying distortion, and the blurred periphery is unpleasant to see. Looking at a phone is a bit better but the whole thing still isn't quite in focus.
My optician says that "that's just how varifocals are, you'll get used to it" but I don't particularly want to if this is the experience.
They also suggested that my frames may be too small, but at 44x40mm that is already larger than I want to wear.
Given the experience with these lenses, which AFAIK are of reasonable quality, is it worth trying any other sort of varifocal before giving up and going on the hunt for decent bifocals again? I've tried these ones long enough and will reject them.

Strange notification action issue

I recently moved my Pebble device between Android phones. Both phones have an app installed which sends reminders to take medication.
Notifications have a "I've just taken it" action, which I could trigger on my PT2 on the old phone. On the new one that's not possible; I only get the usual options to mute, open on phone, dismiss etc.
I've also got a Garmin watch paired to the new phone and that can trigger the pill taken action.
There don't seem to be any obvious settings to change to fix this, unless anyone can think of anything I ought to look for?

Can't transfer to new Android device.

On the new phone, if I select "restore or transfer" I'm shown a QR code with a message stating that I should do the following:

  1. Open Signal on old device.
  2. Tap camera icon.
  3. Scan the QR code.

There is no camera icon, though.

On the old device, selecting "transfer account" from the settings expects a bluetooth hand-off between the devices.

What's going on? This doesn't match any documentation I've found.

Edit: I looked at https://github.com/mollyim/mollyim-android/wiki/Migrating-From-Signal but could not follow these instructions to migrate from signal as I could not make a backup.

Further edit: I could not even restore the existing daily backup; only a numeric keyboard is presented when trying to type the passphrase.

Running/sleep only

Currently I'm using a Pebble watch for most purposes, but as they're not great for workout tracking I've kept a Pixel watch around.
I'd like to replace the Pixel with a Garmin, and a refurbished one would probably be most suitable.
Can they still be useful if they're worn only for sleep and for exercise tracking? Does anyone have any recommendations?

Currently I'm not using Proton Calendar as there's no way I can avoid having to use Google or Microsoft calendars for work.
If Proton Calendar could be set up as a third party calendar on Android (see screenshot from my Pixel device) then I'd definitely use it. This would allow all the different calendar services to be used in the same app simultaneously, and be visible in the timeline on my Pebble watch.
Presumably this is not an option, at least not at present. But, could it be possible in the future?
