Tree nut allergies

I’m allergic to tree nuts but unfortunately, not all tree nuts are in Japans top allergens. Only cashews, macadamia nuts, almonds, and walnuts are listed but I’m allergic to all tree nuts — pecans, hazelnuts, etc. I will go to the allergen page, select all the tree nuts they have listed, and meals will pop up that clearly have tree nuts, like hazelnuts. In the U.S. eating at Disney is easy because all of these are listed under the “tree nut allergen,” but here, I don’t know whether or not there’s other nuts.

How do you handle this in Tokyo Disneysea/land? Especially for counter-service / buffet style?

Thank you!!

Bus to Train in Tokyo

Hey! I’m staying in Tokyo kind of away from the train line, and maps recommends that I take the bus first. How do I go about doing this? Is there anything specific I need to know? Does the bus stop at every stop? If not, is there a trick for knowing whether my stop is next? can I use suica?

TIA!!

Tree nut allergy

Hi everyone! I’m traveling to Japan next month with a tree nut allergy (almonds, pecans, cashew, walnuts, etc.) and I’m nervous about communicating especially with the language barrier. I’ve traveled abroad before but it seems like less locals speak English in Japan.

Are the Japanese aware of allergies and cross-contamination? I know there are allergen menu places but I still would always want to communicate with the waiter just in case. Should I buy one of those allergy cards? utilize Google translate throughout the trip? Should I try to memorize the phrase “im allergic to treenuts?”

Are there any foods that I should definitely avoid? I assume stuff like sushi is safe, right?

Is it worth negotiating portions of my lease?

So, I just got my lease agreement for my new apartment and I’m feeling uncomfortable with much of the lease. It just seems very aggressively one-sided toward the landlord, but I have rented in years and I can’t remember what’s standard or not. Some of the things that I’m questioning are:

- They can enter my apartment at any “reasonable time” without notice or permission for maintenance, inspections, or showing the apartment to prospective buyers/tenants.
- I have to pay 3x my rent to terminate the lease but they can terminate with 60 days notice at any time, if they need to renovate.
- I am required to do arbitration but they are allowed to go through courts for certain instances, like eviction, collecting unpaid rent, collecting other amounts due under the lease. They are allowed to decide to bring my claims to court, instead of arbitrating them, but I don’t have the same right.
- it states that there may be fees for the use of the fitness center but does not specify how much or when.

It also doesn’t mention the appliances in my lease — washer/dryer/dishwasher/etc. does it need to include this?

Is it worth bringing up any of these? I’m mostly uncomfortable with the termination (on their end, I get it’s fair for me to have to pay to terminate) and the entry provision. I really don’t know what’s standard or not.

It’s a major apartment company by the way.

Sugar free mint ice cream

Any suggestions on how to do a mint chocolate chip ice cream with allulose?

My typical ice cream base is 6 egg yolks, 1/2 c whole milk, 1/2 c cream and 3/4 c sugar

Do I need xanthan gum or other emulsifiers without sugar? Is there any way to avoid adding them?

Grades vs. Rank

At a T60ish school. Got my first B grade on a 3.3 curve. All of my other grades are As and one A-. Still in the top 2-3%. Will this negatively impact my chances? Was applying exclusively T-14, not sure if it is a waste of time to keep submitting or if I'm reading way too into it.

GPA is around a 3.85

Unpaid Internship Costs

I'm doing an unpaid internship this summer, where I'll get a 1099-MISC to reimburse some of my parking costs. Would I be able to put the remaining costs as a loss?

In other words, I'll get a 1099-MISC for $600, but will actually pay $800 for parking. It's treated as a reimbursement from the company b/c I need to provide receipts.

I'm married filing jointly so I'll have other income.
