Boomers at the DMV

I had to go to the DMV the other day and at least in my region, they are all appointment only. No walk ins, there isn’t an option at all for it. Even if you don’t know that ahead of time, there are multiple giant signs about it outside and inside as you walk in. Having an appointment doesn’t save you from waiting though.

I showed up on time, took my number, sat and waited. There were only two windows operating at that time so it was going kinda slow. In walk this boomer couple, man and woman. They by bypass every sign and the kiosk you need to sign in at and walk straight up to the counter, an empty window with no one there no less.

After several minutes one of the two people behind the counter goes over and asks what they need. Boomer man is silent, his wife speaks for him.

Boomer wife: he needs to renew his drivers license

Clerk: I’m sorry but we’re by appointment only now and we’re all booked up today

BW: scoffs and makes “I don’t know what to do” noises

Clerk: when does his license expire?

BW: in October

(It’s the middle of August)

Clerk: ok you can make an appointment and come back to have that taken care of.

BW: do you have anything on Monday?

(Today is Friday)

Clerk: let me check the schedule. The next available appointment is next Wednesday.

BW: well we don’t have his calendar so I don’t know if that will work.

Clerk: you can check availability when you make an appointment online

BW: we don’t *do* the Internet

Clerk: -hands them a piece of paper- you can call this number to make an appointment

BW: isn’t there an office in -next town over-?

Clerk: yes that office is open, but they are also by appointment only

BW: did the one in -yet another town- close or are they still there?

Clerk: they are still open, but every office is by appointment only

BW: I guess we’ll have to come back then

They leave, boomer man looks defeated, boomer wife is exasperated even though it was her wasting literally everyone else’s time. Gotta hand it to the clerk though who looked like she was also nearly boomer aged, she was patient as a saint. I just seriously don’t even know how they survive out in the wild anymore.

I did a whoopsie-doodles. Looking to trade Spaceoddity for Sealed With a Hiss (USA)

I’m on vacation right now with limited cell service, so when I managed to get on I added basically everything that was in my wishlist plus a few rewards cause I had a lot of points built up. Didn’t realize until just now just I accidentally ordered a duplicate of Spaceoddity 🤦🏻‍♀️ didn’t mean to do that. It’s sold out now so if someone wants it I’d love to trade. I didn’t get a chance at Sealed With a Hiss, but I’m willing to trade for pretty much anything I don’t already have.

UPDATE: Dealer won’t complete recall because of undercoat on Jeep

Original: https://www.reddit.com/r/4xe/s/SCPB2c406M

I posted two weeks ago about my dealer acting like a bag of ducks (haha). Since then, I have gotten my CEL taken care of and recall completed. I had to go to another dealership, but they were much more helpful and friendly than my original dealership so I’ll be going to them from now on.

To the one guy who commented “your undercoat may have cost you more than you think” who’s comment was deleted by a moderator: no, this other dealership didn’t care at all that there was an undercoat.

For anyone who wants the full story:

When I picked up my Jeep from the first dealership I had them confirm that the undercoat did not void the warranty. They did a lot of hand waving about why it was a problem but never gave me a solid reason as to why I needed to remove the entire undercoat in order for them to work on it.

I then took it to the guys who did my undercoat, very nice young men who own and operate a local small business specializing in undercoating. They put it up on the lift and let me see it, washed off the areas where the connectors were and I took photos. They were very confused about my dealership’s reaction and super apologetic, even though none of this was their fault. The more I told them about what my dealership was saying the more confused they got. At one point one of them was like “let me call your dealership real quick and see what they want”.

When he came back he told me that my dealer told him everything that he had said to me already, that the undercoat had to be completely removed with no solid reason as to why even though it didn’t void the warranty. He apologized again that I was having to deal with this and suggested I go to a dealership that they work with. It was a little farther away but the same franchise as my original dealer, but this one actually sends vehicles to my undercoat guys to be undercoated, so they shouldn’t have a problem.

He gave me the name of the service manager and said I should call them to make an appointment. This was after he had already called them to tell them what I was experiencing and to expect me to call. Then he said if I still wanted to work with them, because these undercoats need to be touched up every few years, that he’d give me a discount next time. These guys went above and beyond to help me out and I’m eternally grateful. That’s how you get customer loyalty.

I made an appointment with the new dealer. Took it in on Monday and got it back yesterday (Wednesday). I needed a new coolant pump which was covered under warranty, and they had to run a new wire from the pump to a module under the Jeep to solve the electrical problems. That was not covered as they could make an argument that it was damaged from off-roading, but it was a fraction of the total would-be cost so I wasn’t complaining. It then successfully passed the recall. Easy peasy.

Now I’m just trying to stop myself from walking through the front door of my old dealership and asking if they know what their service department is up to. That as long as that service manager works there I won’t be coming back for service or to purchase any vehicle from them. I’d also say that I’m going to tell everyone I know not to go there, but everyone I talked to who knows them told me a horror story. Literally no one had a nice thing to say about them. I wonder if they know that they’re infamous.

Dealer won’t complete recall because of undercoat on Jeep

OK I need some advice.

I have a 2021 Sahara 4xe, and I’ve been dragging my feet on getting the 68c recall done. Finally scheduled something for yesterday at my dealer. I also have a check engine light that’s been coming on and off for the past few months. Nothing was acting funny but I had my local mechanic run the code and they came up with the codes in the photo.

I dropped my Jeep off at my dealer first thing in the morning yesterday and at mid afternoon they called and said they were just starting the recall so it wouldn’t be ready until the next day. This morning I get a call and they say they can’t complete the recall with the check engine light on. And they can’t take care of the check engine light because I have an undercoating on my Jeep. They told me I’d have to remove the undercoat for them to even start looking at the check engine light.

I guess I’m wondering if they’re full of shit or not, I can’t see how the undercoating would affect anything. It’s only on the outside, underneath, where things get wet and dirty anyway. Should I do what they say and get it removed or go somewhere else for a second opinion? It’ll be at least hundreds to get the undercoat removed and reapplied, so not an ideal path if it isn’t necessary.
