Warcry as an entry point for children?

So my son has been increasingly interested in my 40k models and the sigmar models at my LGS (I sadly don't have any AoS yet). He is really keen to get started but is still very young, not quite 6.

I'm thinking of what to get him started on in the next year or two. Definitely don't think 40k is right, and was considering Spearhead, but then saw Warcry recommended.

Would you say Warcry is a good format for 6-7 year olds getting into the hobby or is it more complex than it appears?

Vyper finished (first vehicle I've done)

Very different to painting infantry. This was mostly painted with sponges.

Also I have really mixed feelings about the pilot canopies. Shortly after this decided to glue on the two half screens, but still almost prefer it without them.

Eldrad Ulthran complete! C&C always welcome.

Probably my best paint job to date, basically used everything I've tried/learned in the last 2 years on this one.

I might one day come back and push the contrast higher on the red cloak and the helmet, but for now I'm saying done.

A bit annoyed that these photographs don't really show the gems in the best light, so I added in one with natural light before I added the last few highlights. Getting the mini to look the same in a photo and in person is still my hell.

Thoughts after first game of 11th

So tonight I played a test game of 11th ed. with the rules released so far. I thought I might share some impressions I had from my first exposure to the new set up.

Disclaimers:

- we were only playing 1000pts, and my list was certainly not finely tuned, featuring lots of units I hadn't used much and wanted to try.

- we both played take and hold with 10th secondaries. What I could find of the new primaries wasn't really clear enough to justify playing them.

- I was playing a nids army that was very monster heavy. Other units might feel different.

Terrain and general feel:

- it felt faster. Even accounting for us fumbling our way through and checking rules regularly we moved at a fair pace.

- Despite the boards looking crowded on first view, they actually felt very open. It was hard to move slower units in a way where they were going to get somewhere useful but weren't going to be exposed.

- getting used to the footprint being a sight bocker might take me a while, personally.

- quick rolling saves is the best thing that has happened to the game in years

- roll then charge was an improvement overall

- I think the new primary missions will affect the feeling of the game MASSIVELY. I'm really excited to try some of these.

- the new "hidden" rule made a lot less difference than I expected.

Stronger Vs weaker units:

- Long range shooting will be very good. I know it's a meme but... Ranger gun line?

- psychic and torrent weapons will be very powerful due to the abundance of cover.

- fast movement will be beneficial to all armies.

- Units with short range (12 or less) have got to move fast. It is very hard to get them to somewhere they can survive with a chance to shoot.

- transports might be very important this edition.

Anyway, I had a really fun time. This is my first new edition and it was good to have that feeling of discovering new things with another player.

How to push towards minimum quality for competition entry? (Aeldari Fire Dragons)

Hi all, I generally paint for table top standard. It's been about 18 months since I started, and I've mostly been focused on just building an army in the spare time that I have. I'm just about there now, and these are probably the best minis I have produced to date.

My friends are interested in entering MPO in Bristol together next year, and if I do I certainly have no ambition to win, but want to be able to turn in something that at least meats a minimum competition standard.

So, what do you techniques, compositions, or skills do you suggest I practice to kick up to that level?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Fire Dragons all finished up (C&C welcome)

These were loads of fun. And in games they have been absolutely brutal. I know they are pricey these days, but they are just so destructive.

They are good fun to paint, if you haven't yet I'd recommend picking up a box and giving it a try.
