Is 70ms-ish Latency online normally unplayable?

Update 1: I played a few more games that is in the high 60s Getting some minor twitch here and there but a lot better than before. This game is so awesome.

When playing on COTW, I felt that 70ms-80ms is still somewhat playable but when i tried it on KOF XV and it was so bad we both did not rematch.

I tried one in 40 range and it seemed okay but it took maybe 20 minutes or more to finally find one even with 3 bar minimum connection speed.

Location: Toronto, Canada, Rank: Lvl 7, Cross Platform: On, Region: all

If the net code is not as good then maybe I should save my time for the next KOF as it seems like a pretty awesome game. :(

Any suggestion for a KOF newbie?

EDIT: I am specifically asking for tips to get started on KOF XV, sorry for the confusion

Coming from SF6 then migrated to COTW the past yr, any suggestion on where a newbie should start?

I havent had much experience on on KOF but i played a lot of character trials and played some story mode on XV.

I could barely play 1 character well on COTW so having to learn 3 in KOF XV is a bit daughting to say the least.

I suppose I should just pick up a combo per character then just go on ranked and get beat up a bunch till i learn?

No major season 3 balance patch videos coverage huh?

Weirdly quiet post patch. Normally there will be some sort of major video on balance patch, winner/losers.

I guess everyone is busy with Marel Tokon and Aavatar huh...?

So is everyone happy with Kenshiro update?

Havent played for a week because life got busy.

Whats the feedback so far with Kenshiro populating the queue?

I had a few matches against him and remembered people spamming that ground cross-up move. Annoyed the crap out of me coz i had no answer for it.

It sure took away sole Mr. Karate so I am happy lol...

Tips on how to do light confirm into super more reliably ? (fight stick user)

EDIT 2: I practiced a bunch and can now do it pretty reliably using 2B > 236B > 236B. Thanks!

EDIT: I incorrectly used the term light confirm. I am simply asking how to execute light starter into super more reliably.

Hello All,

Need some tips on executing moves like Rock's light confirm into super:

2B > f.B > 236236B

Am i supposed to buffer the first 236 between 2B > F.B? I tried to use 2B as start then 6 f.B. to cover the first of two 236 but Crack Counter (236B) comes out.

I try to do the 236-236 right after hitting f.B but 70% of the time i can't hit last B (to trigger the super) before the f.B cancel window ends.

I'm using a Mayflash F500 Elite and i feel I am just mad shaking the stick in the general direction of 2,3, and 6 because there is no time for precision - As opposed to actually doing 236-236 sequentially. To the point it is shaking the fight stick off my lap.

Is there any tip to it or i just need to learn how to churn faster and more acurrately?

Joe - Tips on how to open up defensive opponents

I am stuck with Joe in mid Iron (~800RP).

One of my problem is I don't seem to be able to open up my opponents defence.

When i get zoned out, his hurricane Upper (236a/c) feels slow and doesnt go full screen. His rev version starts up even slower. So if i try to fireball showdown on someone that is spamming fireball, i usually lose out.

His air slash kick (236b/d)is negative on all 3 version so I cant use it unless it is for combo ender or heavy hit confirm.

His Golden Tatsumaki (214b/d) is useful to cross-up but can be interrupted pretty easily. And best it does is +1 on hit so you can't combo even on hit.

Fearless man (214 A/C) is okay. The armoured kick (Rev into C varient) is the only way to connect a big combo on hit).

Bakurestu Ken (623 a/c) is okay catching crouch blocking opponents with the overhead (c varient). Rev version is only useful if you can hit confirm into it sonce it doesnt even have the overhead properly.

His Tiger Upper (623 b/d) has a very big weakness of overshoting underneath a neutral jumping opponent but otherwise has good reach.

Think just overall i do horribely with him. I do badly against people that zone and chip me, nor do i do well with people that rush me down.

I play Tizoc, Andy and Joe. Have a way easier time with Tizoc, and feel Andy has a lot more tricks to catch people off guard.

Sometimes i question if I should change character, but competitive tier list doesnt impact lowly irom players like myself.

Any tips?

Anyone tried the clone function?

UPDATE: I tired fighting my own Bronze Tizoc and Iron Joe. Both seemed pretty good at replicating my playstyle as i can clearly recognize those are moves i make. It even replicates my mistakes. (I have to admit i did not know my Tizoc was that obnoxious...)

Suddenly remembered about this clone feature and decided to give it a go.

Apparently it allows you to pick a character then let it learn data from any replays from the replay broswer.

I had this guy that was wiping the floor with me 2 weeks ago and decided to download all his recent Gato winning matches, made the Clone learn all of his data, then used the test battle function.

in the 4-5 games that i played with it, it reacted pretty close to how i remembered playing that guy. It even did thr goofy face me with his back thing, where the guy tried to redirect projectiles back at me.

A very interesting alternative way to practice very specifically player you played in the past or if you want to do an intense training on a specific match up.

I won't say it is a substitute for real matches but it is decent nevertheless.

Be wary that the quality of the replay along with the sample size is gonna make a difference to how good/bad a clone turns out.

Another use case for me was to practice against Bronzes Krausers Knee Hellberd spams, so i looked up matches where Bronze Krauser won as a reference for data learning.

What to look for when fighting Wolfgang Krauser?

Any tip on how to handle Krauser's pressure?

So far I had 0 success against him with both my Iron Joe and Brozne Tizoc.

Most of the time I either get Knee Halberd (safe on first hit) or Leg Tomahawk (safe) spam. Most of the time if i get hit once, 40%-60% of my health is gone and I'm always in hard knockdown at the end of the string.

So his Leg Tomahawk is safe across light to Rev (+2f). His Knee Helberd is +2 ~ -5 (-3 rev) on first hit. The follow up to it is -7 but -is safe (-3) if Rev brake.

It feels like i need to get my reaction perfectly timed to get back a turn else i will be blocking the whole match. I also find it very hard to react on it with high dodge.

Then his command grab happens every now and then when I'm conditioned enough to stay blocking.

The crazy thing is, he actually doesn't seem that fast but yet i don't seem to know how to react to him when under pressure.

Random Select + Arcade Map music = instant tilt...

Heh... I just had a game where it random selected the Arcade Map track and kept running in loop every 12 seconds.

Arcade Map...

It tilted me so bad that I am never using random select anymore 😏

Being carried by Tizoc's Guard Cancel 360.

Lucky Win

So this is my Bronze Tizoc.

My wins are usually dependent on my opponent making big mistakes where i can then REV 360 grab.

Most of my matches are like this. They get into my face then i keep making bad decisions and not knowing when is my turn. My only chance is hope i don't get HKD so i can roll the opposite direction.

In this case, I completely lost my lead not knowing how to handle the pressure and by 0:20, i decided to do nothing but fish for guard cancel grab

IF she did ANYTHING other than stuff is easy to Guard Cancel, i probably would've lost.

As much as I know that it was a lucky shot. It felt good because it was my decision to fish for guard cancel despite being clearly inferior in every other way.

Ironically, Tizoc's guard cancel carried me to bronze while i barely stay in low Iron with my Andy and Joe.

I even occasionally dedicated a whole round to nothing guard cancel 360 for defense when i face rush down because i just can't keep them away from me. Most of the time to bad results of course lol...

Is that what others do? when you have no answer and just look for one very specific situation to happen and hope it turns you around?

How do you deal with Rev Blow Spams?

What are you strategy against Rev Blows when not in SPG?

At my iron/broze level, I find Rev Blow spams to.be a bit hard to deal with.

I find myself extremely passive when my opponent is in SPG because:

  • They are usually safe on block
  • I lose in Air to Air,
  • Universial AA I dont always get it in time on reaction

My current strategy is:

  • Be ready to super in case i see green.
  • Ready to throw if close.
  • Do not try meaty and stay away on wake up
  • Stay away in general :(

Rev blow spam happens in higher level?

Hitbox and Hurthox interaction in COTW (and viewers)

Anyone familar with hitbox viewers and know if it is safe to install? Dream cancel doesn't seem to show hit/hurtboxes.

I was a SF6 player that fully migrated to COTW (not high level by any means).

I can't say I am new to the game anymore, but one thing i still can't get comfortable with are some of the hitbox and hurtbox.

So many times i thought i jumped a super but turns out I get caught mid-air, the super seems to drag me back down to standing as if i never jumped.

Is it because they are just fancy hit-grabs that once it gets you, it repositions you to perform the fancy muti-hit animation?

This happened to me a few times yesterday fighting Jae Hoon and Mr. Karate. I think they were using their level 1 super where the character performs a very fast chains of hit.

Something I need to get use to as i feel it doesn't seem as easy to neutral jump supers in this game.

How do you play as Andy?

UPDATE: After hours of trying Andy and scraping around low iron, i may be at the verge of giving up. Nothing seems to be clicking for me. But at least now i know how to fight Andy easily with Tizoc after knowing his moves better :)

Was testing out Andy just for fun and am not going anywhere with him

Non of his far C/D cancels into special.

His lights mainly connect to light special only. and out of most of his light specials, only 623A and 236B causes knockdown. Everything else like 236A and 214A barely gives any plus frames.

Is it all about whiff punishing and fishing for counter/wild punish hits? I feel like all i can do with his far C/D are pokes that doesn't connect into anything.

I have no clue how to even get close enough to make use of close C/D to cancel into heavy and rev specials.

I was solely playing Tizoc before this switch so it was a bit of a shock how bad i am lol...

I also have not had much luck with his 214B/D/BC (jumping flip > variation) as I kept getting knocked out of the air.

Even after looking up some high level replays, it still just looks like a lot of random rev art to natural skip and catch ppl off guard.

Who is your main and What is your strategy/playstyle?

I just broke into bronze as Tizoc

I generally am never the first agressor at start of match. I play netter if inreact based on how the opponent attack. Wait for a few attacks then i determine how to react.

I am not good at corner pressuring so I keep the other player at the corner but usually stay a jump away so i can whiff punish or anti-air if they try to get out.

I tried doing corner pressure up close with meaty and etc but it never works for me. They either escape, combo me, invincible resersial, or even worse - put me back into the corner.

I have seen a lot of player at my level start with jump-in or neutral skipping moves before the clock even hits 98s, but i must admit they sometime do catch me sleeping/surprised🤦‍♂️.

How do you play? Are you a hyper bunny hopper? Unga Bunga at 98 seconds? Neutral skip then back up and repeat? Fireball Spam?

Why do i see players with double/triple my RP in lower level than me in Ranked?

I noticed a lot of ranked players with double (if not triple) my RP but somehow they are in Bronze while I'm only in Iron.

How is that possible?

Tip for knowing when it is my turn while blocking?

I am an Iron - Tizoc

Understanding frame data and all, I realize i can't remember the framedata for every characters's pressure strings.

So far i feel like if i ever see someone fient after a close button, just assume it is not your turn. And sometime it happens so fast i just end up keep blocking and end up getting thrown.

Is it worse trying to push for Hyper Defense in hope of taking back the turn?
