Laser weapons when?

China is going to be issuing these the ZKZM-500 directed-energy weapons (laser rifles) for “use against illegal protests” and wondering about the feasibility of this project.

Reported factory specs:
Weight: ~6.6 lbs (man-portable)
Range: Claimed 800 meters
Power: Rechargeable lithium battery pack
Output: Invisible beam capable of burning skin, exploding car gas tanks

Obviously, the commercial version uses specialized optics and high-end laser diodes that aren't likely sitting on Amazon, but whats the realistic timeline to clone or approximate something like this?

Are the power requirements and thermal management too dangerous for a printed chassis, or is anyone already working on high-power laser builds? (Besides styropiro)
