Accidentally built my favorite guitar
Started a Jazzmaster project on a whim. Was originally inspired by the Elvis Costello model and ordered a body from Tonebomb, but I got impatient waiting (just past 13 weeks now i believe) and I ordered this sunburst CV body from ebay cuz I was really digging Nels Cline’s 59(?) from thai video: https://youtu.be/eiRi8TWwEtE?si=ZnCEB690yzbUXCzt
Anyway, I made a post about this before but after spending some time with it, I can’t believe I nailed it on the first pass. Pure Vintage 65 pickups, traditional 59 style wiring, MIJ tremolo, mustang bridge, and string it up with Daddario heavy bottom light top strings. The gold anodized on the sunburst is cool.
Sounds awesome, plays super well. Gotta tweak the pickup height and maybe the bridge needs some fiddling but other than that it’s amazing.
A month or so ago I posted a thread with photos of the parts I had collected for this project along with some inspo photos, and it was unceremoniously deleted by reddit. However, I persevere.
I have been waiting on a Tonebomb knotty pine body, fully sanded and it’s steadily crept past the 10 week lead time estimation and the last I heard from them, they were hoping to send it out last week. It’s fine, I know it will be worth the wait, I’ve heard nothing but good things about their craftsmanship so I’m not going to be annoyed at them for taking longer.
I am, however, impatient. So, i grabbed a very inexpensive CV Jazzmaster body from ebay and decided to try to get some of those Nels Cline vibes via his ‘58(?) sunburst jazzy. I put everything together last night and yeah, it’s pretty damn cool.
Better photos/sounds to follow after I finish my move this weekend. Here’s a spec rundown for now:
CV Jazzy neck
CV Jazzy body
MIJ tremolo
Mustang bridge
Pure Vintage 65 pickups
all cloth pushback wire, vintage spec electronics
pickguard is from etsy and is reasonably good. not all of the holes lined up perfectly, but definitely good enough.
next purchases include actual pickguard screws (these are zinc screws from home depot that certainly work, but are a little shiny/flat for my taste) and maybe some new foam for underneath the pickups. they seem to sit a little funny.
