Having fun converting some oldies to Evo!

These sorts of old cars are some of my favorites. Hard to drive, look awesome and when I crash- incalculable damage to irreplaceable motoring history 🤣

EvoForge has made it easy to mod this game make the grids I want for offline racing. Now if Evo could just fix the AI 😒

Brakes fixe for the GTO (mod)

So I was talking to my mechanic, Tony, about the poor braking performance of the GTO. He said he knew a guy in Maranello, Tony, who knew a guy at the Ferrari warehouse, Antonio, and could get a F40 brake kit. So I went down with Tony, talked to the warehouse guy, Anthony, who set us up with a new-old stock F40 braking kit. (This is my fantasy world-too bad- but you're invited over and talk to Tony he'll hook you up.)

This is the json and kspkg files that go in your Mods folder

This doesn't magically fix the GTO 100% (check the brake torque I think it defaults to 105% so turn it down some). BUT the GTO is SO MUCH BETTER TO DRIVE with the F40 brakes. It always irritated me how badly Kunos botched this car with bad brakes. Same with the Countach (which I'll work on next).

I didn't even lose first place LOL

I eventually did lose first place but not because of this incident with the AI! This is AMS2, those are AI, I was driving like a 13 year old chases a girl. I was way too aggressive, and clumsy and having fun! It's AI oh well. Best part of the race. I would have finished 8th (maybe 7th) but I ran outta gas with 2 mins left.

I introduce to you the Zhuhai pirouette 🩰

Technique for driving the 2005 GT1 cars

I've been watching onboards, and these cars are awesome. They aren't like modern GT cars with fully automatic gearboxes. These cars are the bridge from stick shift to manumatic. Watch the onboard- he flat foot shifts up the box, but uses the clutch to shift down the box. One of the cool things about cars of this period is that on track at the same time you could have gearboxes like this, full manumatic, and stick shift all in the same race.

Plus that V12 sound and the whine of the transmission is like a symphony

How do you drive the 2005 GT1 cars?

This is what I love

Ever since the rain patch in June, I have been getting rain or a wet track in almost every race weekend I do. But it so happens, I like racing in the rain!

Sebring, MC12, multiclass GT1 and GT2 (first race with it- my plan is to do a race in every 05 GT1 and GT2 car) lots of rain in the race. At times I couldn't see the sides of the road, I was following lights ahead. It was insane but it was fun. The weird thing is, I only finished 4th in this race but I was excited to finish 4th!

The rain effects in AMS2 are awesome

AC Evo vs AC Rally

Wow, that was an eye opener. Today I've been messing around comparing some things between ACE and ACR.

In ACE the clutch is very difficult to use. I stall out more often than not when taking off from a dead stop. After a lot of messing around with the clutch settings it's better but still awful
(240z). But what set me off on this tangent is that all the stick shift cars in Evo do this. AMS2 and RRRE stick shift cars do not have this problem. In ACE, you have to rev the shit out of the engine, drop the clutch and control wheel spin on the throttle. Since there's no mechanical damage to the clutch or gearbox it's how it's done. that's not a simulation of a clutch at all.

I did a similar test with the Lancia Fulvia in ACR. Without messing with the clutch settings, it just works like a clutch should. I let out the clutch smoothly and just take off, no drama, no stalling out. From the start line I let out the clutch like I would if it was a real car and I was taking off in a hurry. that's a simulation.

I stopped the Z on Paddock hill in Brands Hatch. I have no assists enabled. In neutral, the car doesn't roll. In gear, clutch in, the car just sits there. N and clutch in- same. It's like there's no gravity. I've seen this on other tracks too. No matter how steep the hill (and Paddock Hill is pretty damn steep) the car won't roll unless I nudge it one way or the other. The car won't roll back or forward without a little help.

In ACR, the car will roll down a hill, albeit slowly. In AMS2, I tested this on Mosport (Diablo and 935/80 mod) on one of those hills. It rolls back too.

ACE, when you stop on Paddock Hill even if you are just creeping, when you stop, the tires screech. If you use the handbrake, it's an instant stop and tires screeching even if the handbrake is gently applied (Moza handbrake- it's not a button).

ACR, the handbrake is a lot gentler. The tires don't screech when you stop from a slow speed with the regular brakes, the car just comes to a stop like a regular car should.

Why is ACR so much better than ACE even though Evo is a hell of a lot older and should be a hell of a lot more developed?

Go and try these exercises for yourself. I didn't post videos because this is something you should do yourself.

New AI is ultra aggressive and the pit manuever is baCK

This fucking game is 2 steps forward 2 steps back. The AI was excellent before the newest patch. They can't just leave well enough alone.

GT1 and GT2, I'm in the Spyker. Curitiba. This happened several times, I've given up on this race. One time, the AI was behind before that esses section and went off track from a car length behind and pitted me from the dirt. This one is just the good ole' fashioned idiot lunge.

Plus the AI rubber bands now. I'll pull away from one AI, put up a PB lap, just to have another AI magically surge forward to do something stupid. Plus, low % passes in bad spots. This is just bad AI. They had it working so well before this.

I need to try other classes I guess and see if they fucked the whole game or just this class. They just can't get the AI right and keep it good- every patch is a roll of the fucking dice.

Wet Line Progress pics

This was a Lambo Diablo Hungaroring race weekend I did yesterday. Since the patch ALL my races have had rain or a moist track at some point (I use historical weather). This race featured a qualification session where it was raining buckets. I think the AI was on slicks, they were 5 secs off my pace when I hit the pits but at the end of the session they were only 2 secs off. Anyway, the race session had dry, cool weather but the track was still wet (not soaked and much of the track was still dry).

Here's a time lapse of the same corner the entry to T13. There was a lot of puddling around T13 and the puddle dried up as the race went on. The first shot is of qualifying and how rainy it was. Shot 6 shows when the track was dry but there was still some moisture being kicked up by the cars ahead on my windscreen. The final shot (9) shows the exact lap when the dry line appeared. It was really cool to feel the car change, to feel when the tires hooked up and when I could push. The car was changing every lap and I had to feel out how the change was affecting the grip.

The puddle patch has been amazing so far. Some of the changes are not subtle- the rain spray, & hydroplaning. But this corner was a much more nuanced change that I haven't experienced with another game.

State of Evo online

Ronin Road 50 server

This is the state of online with Evo right now. If it's not straight up wreckers like these 2 cocksuckers, it's drifters who are just as bad. I know that getting in with a league is the only way to go, it's just too bad that it always devolves into this shit. Sometimes I just want to do chill laps, it's frustrating.
