How the Dream Router 7 as an Alien replacement?

I’m upgrading to 2gig fiber next week, so it’s time to retire the Alien. Verizon provides a free gateway that I may use for a week or so until I figure out what I’m doing long term.

My WiFi needs are pretty straightforward. I live in a 600sqft studio apartment in NYC, so a very compact space but with heavy congestion.

I also do moonlight streaming and occasional VR so WiFi performance is important. Other than that my network is simple.. there’s a 4 port switch to provide Ethernet to my devices on desk. My current 1gig switch is being replaced with a Unifi 4 port 2.5gig managed switch.

It seems like the spiritual successor to the Alien is the Dream Router 5G Max, but it’s $500, out of stock, and I have no need for 5G fallback. Is the Dream Router 7 a suitable replacement? It seems like it has a simpler antenna layout but for my circumstances it may not matter at all.

How’s the Unifi Dream Router 7 for streaming?

I’m upgrading my Fios to 2gig and need to replace my gateway/router. I’m currently using an Amplifi Alien which has been working great but doesn’t support anything over 1gig.

The UDR7 seems like a good replacement, but I’ve been reading some so-so things on its WiFi performance. I live in a studio apartment in NYC, so while the space is super small and easy there’s lots of potential interference around me and congestion.

The Alien might have been overkill for my needs, but WiFi performance was excellent… and it seems like the UDR7 uses a much simpler antenna layout.

Looks like Steam Deck OLED joystick caps are compatible with Steam Controller

I have a Steam Deck LCD and bought a dbrand joystick caps awhile ago… they come with two sets each compatible with either the LCD or OLED model. Out of curiosity I tried the OLED caps since they were just sitting in a drawer and they fit perfectly.

TIL Skins can discolor if you use the hairdryer too long….

My first complex skin application didn’t go great. I ended up with some wrinkles and bubbles along the handles. I tried working them out a hair dryer and microfiber cloth…. Until I realized the skin was starting to turn brown from the heat.

It’s hard to see in the pics but you can see some of it along the sides of the controller. I guess next time I’ll avoid applying heat to the top of the skin.
