Student's dream
I genuinely have a question, my dear Malaysian friends.
First of all, I want to say how much I truly love Malaysia and its people. I will never forget the years I spent studying here, and I will always be grateful for the kindness, hospitality, and good character I have experienced from Malaysians. I don't think I could ever repay that kindness.
But my main question is this:
As a student, I have always dreamed of owning a car. I'm a Mechanical Engineering student, and I have always dreamed of owning a German car, even if it is an older model, maybe something from around 2004. I don't care much about the age as long as the car is in good condition, because as a student, I simply don't have the time or money to constantly repair a problematic car.
Whenever I look for cars on Facebook, however, I mostly find dealers, and it is difficult to find a reasonably priced car in good condition.
At the same time, I see so many cars that have clearly been left unused. I see cars sitting in parking lots covered in dust and dirt, sometimes for years. And I always wonder: why not sell them for a reasonable or even cheap price instead of letting them sit there?
I understand that some people are financially comfortable and simply don't care about an old car anymore. But at the same time, that same car could be someone's dream.
So why not sell it to someone who would genuinely appreciate it? For example, you could even make sure the buyer is a student by checking their university ID. 😅
I'm only asking because I'm genuinely curious about the culture behind this.
Once, I visited the house of someone who was a huge car enthusiast. There were several cars at the end of the garage, but they were in very poor condition and had been sitting there for a long time. To me, however, one of those cars was literally a dream car.
I remember seeing a Mercedes-Benz W211 with flat tires and covered in dust. From what I could tell, the car didn't seem to have any major problems—it simply hadn't been used for a long time.
So I honestly wonder: if a car is basically considered worthless or useless to its owner, why keep it sitting there for years when someone else might see it as their dream car?
I'm not criticizing anyone. I'm genuinely curious and would really love to hear the opinions of Malaysians here. Is there a reason people prefer to keep these old unused cars rather than sell them, even at a low price?
