Best areas to live in Kuala Lumpur as an expat (MM2H) – Desa ParkCity vs KLCC vs Ampang?

Hi everyone,

I’m considering moving to Kuala Lumpur under the MM2H program and I’m trying to decide which area would be best for long-term living as an expat.

At the moment I’m looking at:

 • Desa ParkCity (Park Place)
 • KLCC (The Troika area)
 • Ampang

My priorities are:

 • safety and security
 • comfortable daily living
 • clean and well-maintained environment
 • good access to hospitals and services
 • expat-friendly community
 • fully furnished condo options

I would really appreciate honest advice from people living in KL:

 • Which area is the most practical for everyday life?
 • Is KLCC actually comfortable to live in or more for lifestyle/short stays?
 • Is Desa ParkCity worth the higher prices?
 • Any specific condo buildings you would recommend or avoid?

Thanks a lot for any insights 🙂

Accessibility is not in mind in this city

Where can I start?
Sidewalks - great! But to get to sidewalks one must use only stairs, no ramp is available.
Kids Splash pad with waterfall in KLCC park - great! But only accessible via stairs, zero ramp to bring down the stroller with a baby, even though it is literally zone for kids and babies!

How do parents of young kids live here? Do they not take their kids anywhere? Why there are so little stroller-friendly areas in the city?

Backed out of a day trip out of KL..Alternatives?

I was supposed to go on a day tour to Malacca today.
However I decided to get off the bus when we were at berjaya waiting for the last tourist to join. I’m dealing with period pain, the entire bus was full of old people (60+, I’m 29) and I felt very out of place and lonely. The tour guide did say it would be a lot of walking and I was already uncomfortable and in pain. So I made a decision and got off.

The day is still long. What should I do? I’m not really into malls. What are things you think I should do? I will do some shopping but after that I don’t know. I like cafes, bookstores, culture etc.

Any tips ?

Also pls tell me I’m not missing out too much by not going 😭

KL on concert situation— How bad is the traffic?

Hi! I just want to ask this here.

It will be my 3rd time in KL soon however, the first time for a concert. I am not from KL and I’m from another country. On my first two visits, I was only using Grab and only staying in the city center, on those days there were no special events too.

Now, looking at it. The concert venue is quite far from the center. I just want to ask, especially those familiar with the city:
- How bad is the traffic situation when there is a concert?
- If the concert ends almost midnight, is there still public transportation available back to hotel or private car is already needed?

Hope to hear answers here. Thank you!

Do you think Malaysian customer service is mediocre?

I travelled to a couple of countries recently including China and Vietnam and after experiencing those places I feel that the customer service culture here is not very refined. As in, business owners don't really put much thought into providing excellent service. So in hospitality you have workers who are clearly mentally checked out when serving you, follow rigid arbitrary guidelines that wastes the customer's time to no benefit for the business, not making accommodations for the feelings of the customer, etc. Anyway, I'm definitely not saying that Malaysians aren't friendly people. Just that customer service culture seems a bit primitive in this aspect.

Live wedding painting at Kuala Lumpur’s The Met!

I wanted to share a live wedding painting I made for a cute couple’s wedding in KL recently! It was a fun evening and there was a lot of freeflow Malaysian food 🙈🫶
Swipe to last slide for the end result after one week of touch up ❤️ Fun fact: the bride and I met on Reddit!

Casa Kiara 1 vs Lanai Kiara vs Laman Suria — Which One Is the Best Buy for Own Stay in Mont Kiara?

Hi everyone! Would love to get some honest opinions and personal experiences from anyone staying in or familiar with these condos.

I’m currently considering:

A. Casa Kiara 1

B. Lanai Kiara

C. Laman Suria

These 3 are within the budget range I can still afford for own stay. I’m aware that all of them are older projects, so renovation will definitely be needed, and yes… I already know the Mont Kiara traffic is crazy 😅

What I really want to know is:

1.How’s the community and neighbourhood vibe in each condo?

2.Which one feels more comfortable and pleasant for own stay?

3.How’s the management and maintenance? Any issues with noise, cleanliness, security, or tenant profile?

I did try to “spy” around Casa Kiara a little because I was curious about the resident mix. It seemed like there are few workers staying there, which personally may not be my preferred environment for long-term own stay.

Would really appreciate any genuine feedback, pros & cons, or things I should watch out for before deciding.

Stolen laptop

🚨 STOLEN LAPTOP ALERT🚨

Model: Huawei Matebook X Pro Ultra 9

Serial Number: 27Z0224429002408

Our laptop was stolen last night (18.05) via a Lalamove fake cheque scam. He took the laptop from Aradia Residence, LakeCity in KL. A formal Police Report (Laporan Polis) has been filed, and the serial number is officially flagged at Huawei Malaysia and authorized service centers.

If you see this exact model being sold on Carousell, FB Marketplace, Mudah, or at a second-hand shop (especially around Low Yat, Digital Mall, or local tech shops), PLEASE DO NOT BUY IT - it is stolen property.

If you spot this listing or have any information, please PM me directly. Thank you! 🙏

How bad is West Coast Malaysia weather in mid/late September? Honest advice needed !!!

Hey guys, I’m a 20 yrs old solo traveller and planning to visit Peninsular/West Coast Malaysia for around 14 days in mid/late September...

I’m mainly interested in places like cameron highlands, the french & japanese village, george Town/Penang, Langkawi and similar areas around West Malaysia.

I wanted to ask locals/ or people who’ve visited around that time !!! how’s the weather usually in september there??? I don’t mind occasional rain, but I’m worried about long continuous rain that could stop me from exploring or ruin multiple days of the trip.....

I’ve heard mixed opinions online and some people say september isn’t a great month for the west coast. Is that actually true in reality?

Relocation: tips, tricks?

Hey everyone!

Me, my wife and our son (<1yr) are looking to move to KL!

We are not yet decided and we have watched a couple of videos, browsed through apartements and so on but still arent sure - so I figured I‘ll ask the community!

Our Budget for the apartement is up to 6k - we are told its usual to „haggle“ it down, is that the case?

Do you have any recommendations in terms of condo? We heard good about Mont Kira but thats a place, anything in there that makes you say „wow, this is it!“?

our son is still young, how stroller friendly is it? I heard bad things but there are people doing that stroller situation, so it cant be THAT bad?

How do you spend your weekends? Whats there to do thats „exciting“?

And finally: what else is there to know before coming here?
thanks!

H&M is moving its regional HQ to KL from Singapore

Some interesting news about a big company moving its regional base. I'm curious what made them do it. Sounds like a good thing for Malaysia, hopefully it brings more opportunities and helps the local economy. It'll be cool to see how it all plays out in the long run. Will more regional HQs move to KL? What's changed to make Malaysia more appealing?

Digicam video edit i made of KLCC. Meant to look 2000s.

Took on my 2007 discontinued nikon cam. I like editing these videos and making it seem like its from the 2000s :3 (this edit was made in Feb 2026.)

The Chinese Malays seem to be more “richer” here for being a small percent of the population?

Since I’ve been here I’ve noticed this a lot .. most of the fancy cars are seen with them , there also seem to be a lot of Chinese land lords, own majority if the tech / big companies here … ? Is this just a misconception on my part? Am I committing a fallacy here?

Edit: Chinese Malaysian’s***

Why is KL so dead on Mondays and Tuesdays evenings?

Unfortunately I'm only here for these two days. There isn't much happening in the evenings as far as I know. The only one I know of is quiz nights but it doesn't seem ideal for solo travelers.

Would love any event recs for the next two nights. Open mics, comedy, social mixers.

A margerine affair

Excuse my ignorance, i'm new here, but can anyone explain why malaysians are so in love with margerine? I can taste it in everything, from basic products to more complex ones, margerine is in everything in Malaysia. Why would anyone use margerine to roast coffee or sunflower seeds? I love Malaysian food but as someone that is somehow careful what puts in their mouth, i find it very hard to eat healthy here. Is this (part) of why the obesity rate is growing so fast here?
