Automatic journey tracking + live activity + stats
Hi everyone!
I wanted my trips to be recorded automatically every time I drove, so I put together a simple setup using Apple Shortcuts and CarPlay.
Whenever my iPhone connects to CarPlay, it automatically starts recording the trip. As soon as it disconnects, the recording stops. No buttons to press, no forgetting to start or end a drive. Just these two simple automations.
Afterwards I can replay the route on a map and see stats like:
- Average speed
- Top speed
- Distance
- Elevation change
- Trip duration
It also supports Live Activities so I can see live stats on the lock screen / CarPlay dashboard and a bunch of other features.
I originally built it because I drive a "dumb" EV and wanted an easy way to compare efficiency across my regular routes, but I've ended up using it on every drive.
