Is my DNS encrypted and hidden from my ISP system-wide when running Mullvad VPN?

DNS is the most confusing part of online privacy and security for me and I could not find a clear answer about this for the life of me, soz.

Does Mullvad VPN automatically route system-wide DNS traffic in a way that's encrypted and not using my ISP's DNS server, or is there something else I need to tinker with to get it to do that outside of just my browser?

I'm getting a new laptop and I want to try dual booting Linux on it (I haven't used Linux before). I want to make sure it can run it nicely. I've narrowed it down to the ASUS Zenbook S16 or A16 because they're the only ones I could find which fit my surprisingly niche needs (strange).
I'm mainly asking because the A16 uses a Snapdragon X2 EE chip and I was unable to find a clear answer as to whether Linux is friendly with Snapdragon or not, but I guess it's good to ask about their other specs regarding Linux compatibility too.
