Is polished concrete a good idea?

Hey all,

Got a new build coming along and we've said from the beginning that we wanted polished concrete, the builder advised that we can only do it after handover - only to find out we've got a waffle slab which apparently is unsuitable.

The polishing guys still reckon they can do it but I'm a bit worried now, should I look at alternatives?
