M2 MBA battery and trackpad/keyboard woes
After my M2 MBA's battery died I replaced it with a 3rd party replacement via Amazon. However, I wasn't able to get it to work. Testing the battery with a multimeter revealed it was defective so I bought a replacement from iFixit--I swapped it out successfully and the laptop holds a charge now. However, now I have a new issue that the trackpad and keyboard show no signs of life. Just to be sure I didn't damage the trackpad cable during the battery replacement I purchased a trackpad cable from iFixit and swapped that out--no luck. My eyes see nothing wrong with the cable connectors on the trackpad or logic board ends.
I didn't have issues with the trackpad or keyboard before I installed the iFixit battery so maybe its possible I damaged the trackpad connector on the motherboard. Although I can get it to seat it is quite prone to disconnecting and I can't replicate the crisp snap people talk about a successful connection making. Pressing my finger into either side of the connected cable unseats it quite easily. I have the retention bracket, but that does not solve the problem either.
So to summarize my guesses are:
- Trackpad cable connector on the logic board somehow got damaged
- The trackpad itself is broken
- The 3rd party battery broken something electrical, although I doubt this since the laptop now successfully holds a charge
Has anyone seen this before or have any insight? Unfortunately I do not have a spare M2 Air to swap parts with--that would really help with narrowing this down.
Edit: Also, not really sure why the keyboard would be broken with no backlight even if the trackpad or its cable/connection are damaged.
