Are the flies this summer crazy for anyone else?
We’re in a rental in the fan and we’re trying to figure out if this is an US thing or a RICHMOND thing. In the backyard.

I know I need to see my PCP, but until I can get in I’d love to know if this is a normal thing or an “oh shit something is wrong” thing.
RNY in 2021, glp1 (sema now tirz) for a year.
Twice in July I had - what felt like - extreme bloating that lasted for hours, to the point where I was doubled over in pain, couldn’t stand up straight, and had to lay down in bed on my side till it went away. GasX helped, but the first time I didn’t think to take it until it was already bad and I don’t know how much it did. Second time it helped but didn’t eliminate it, but that bout was definitely milder and shorter.
At the time I was like “oh yeah it’s just really bad gas”, but now that it’s happened twice I’m semi freaking out and thinking maybe something is wrong with my RNY.
The pressure/pain is primarily in my upper abdomen, right in the middle. Both times my abdomen got so visibly bloated I had to undo my pants.
Aside from this I haven’t ever had any issues (aside from GLP1 nausea). I’ve been very grateful to have a very smooth and uncomplicated Bariatric journey. Oh, did have to have my gallbladder out a few years ago, but I had stones before the surgery.

I need to vent for a second.
I’ve been on Strattera for about 1.5 years. Since starting a GLP1 I’ve had daily nausea which I’ve since realized was because of the combo of slower stomach emptying + strattera. Pdoc and I are trying 40mg (down from 80mg) for a month+. I’m about 3 weeks in.
Gang, I’m in bad shape. All of my emotions are so LOUD and sharp, and I have immediate big reactions with no impulse control. I’ve picked massive fights with my partner and been rude to my boss, and then once the smoke clears I feel awful. I don’t see my pdoc until August 20 and she doesn’t have any earlier openings and she won’t write a script without an appointment. I don’t know how I’m going to make it without quitting my job, getting fired, or breaking up with my partner and moving across the country.
If there is an upside, I’ve had zero nausea on 40, so maybe I can go up and it’ll still be fine. If not I’m going to need to figure something else out, because I need to be on a GLP1 and I’m quickly realizing I need to be on a higher dose of Strattera.
I guess another silver lining is that I won’t take Strattera for granted anymore. It was such a subtle ramp up for me, but I remember finally reaching a point where I realized things weren’t so loud and sharp and being so grateful I almost cried. I need to get back there before I tank my life.
Question: I do have one more refill left on my 80s. Do I fill it just to test out if the nausea is still there? Maybe I just needed a breather and it’ll be fine?
And just a note. I had nausea when I first started. It was a rough 2 months. But it went away and I hadn’t had any nausea until I started a GLP1. And yes, I’ve done all the things. I eat protein with it, I drink electrolytes, I’ve experimented taking it in the morning and at night (was better at night but still not great).
Ughhhh.
Our guy is a 7 yr old 40 lbs furball of love who has been dealt a shitty hand at life. He’s from a puppy mill, was adopted during Covid, is highly anxious and sometimes reactive - mostly around me. He’s owner protective, and gets gastro issues when stressed. He’s reactive towards dogs on walks, and can be reactive in the house if it’s an alpha personality dog or someone jumping all over him. Wouldn’t want him around kids. We’ve done a lot of training and he’s on twice daily anxiety meds, but they are who they are - ya know?
We’ve tried a couple boarding situations in the area but haven’t found the right one. Most recently we tried Pet Paradise, which was great but he was terrified the whole time. When they tried him with a small group of dogs he did fine, but the big group rushed him and he got reactive, so they deemed him a “by himself” dog. I’m sad they don’t have small play groups. I think hearing all the dogs really stressed him out. We also tried a home sitter, but when his stress gastro issues flared up she didn’t force him to take his meds, and that just spiraled.
We’re hoping someone knows someone who is experienced and good with tricky dogs, is not put off by a strong spicy first impression, and who is comfortable shoving heartburn meds down his throat if he refuses to take them. We’re open to facilities and also individuals. He’s such a good boy, and I hope we find the right situation that feels good for both parties.
Thanks so much for your help!
Since we moved we’ve had 2 failed boardings and an “ok” one . I’d love to know what has worked for you.
Our pup is owner protective and has a short fuse but is a thousand times better once I’ve gone. He’s really anxious and will sometimes be so anxious he gets sick. He’s reactive on walks and with other dogs and people if I’m around.
An added layer is that we had a really big medical event a couple years ago that was gastro related. We’ve since figured out allergies (mostly), and taking heartburn meds daily seem to help. But when he’s stressed it can flair up.
Board 1: a pet sitter came by to feed and walk him. We figured he might be more comfortable staying at home, but he got so stressed he the shoelaces off all our shoes and made himself sick . He barked at the sitter the whole time but didn’t try to harm him. Before this, we had done a lot of exposure with this sitter, so it’s not like we just tossed them together. This made us learn he can’t stay by himself.
Board 2: he stayed with a friend he knows. Got heartburn, she didn’t want to give him his meds, he ate some non edible crap, and he just spiraled from there. So behavior - fine. Medical, we had to pick him up early bc he was throwing up and not eating and she didn’t know what to do. This helped us learn that we need to be very clear that his gastro meds are not negotiable and they need to shove them down his throat if necessary. Also that having him at someone’s house, where he can eat crap, might be a bad idea.
Board 3: we used a boarding place where he would have his own space, vets that could handle meds, no access to stuff lying around that he could eat, and the potential to spend time with other dogs. He does really well when I’m gone and has stayed at places like this before. The plan was to keep him by himself for a day, and then if he was doing well try introducing him to other dogs. He did fine with a couple, but then they tossed him into the big group they rushed him and he freaked out. So he got labeled as a dog that has to be by himself. They don’t do small play groups, it’s all the dogs or none of them.
When we picked him up he was fine, but the place said he was terrified the whole time. So I’m glad we didn’t have to pick him up early, but also do I want to put him in a space where he’s terrified?
We have a trip coming up in 6 months and have to find a solution to this, but I really don’t know where to go next. An option is to drive 2 hours away to our old city and have him stay with our previous trainer, who owns the facility he boarded at successfully, but do we really want two four hour trips?
Ugh. Thank you!
Since starting a GLP1 my appetite has been so particular and stomach has been so sensitive. The idea and taste of protein powder is gross, but I know that it would be helpful if I could add some to my smoothies.
For those of you with sensitive stomachs, have you found anything that works? I essentially don’t want a taste or texture, which I feel might be impossible. I’d like to be able to mix it into fruit smoothies and not taste it.
Thank you!
I’d love to know how you feel about yours! Before I explain my complicated relationship with my own birthday, I’d like to preface this by saying I’m so grateful for my situation. I hope that none of this comes off as being a princess, I’m just needing to think through my own feelings . I’d love to know if any of you feel something similar.

I’ve always struggled with mine. I got love bombed as a child in a stressful household, so my birthday was wonderful and also overwhelming. It sent a very unrealistic expectation of what an appropriate celebration should be.
Today, all the calls and texts are lovely, but it is also so overwhelming to respond and answer and talk to so many people, or else feel like an ass for getting back to them in 7 business days. My partners family never made a big deal out of birthdays growing up, so he will always do something but it’s never at the level of my love bombing childhood birthdays.
So to me, my birthdays are always pretty loaded and cause me a fair amount of anxiety. I get overwhelmed from all the people, and feel let down by the one I really crave attention from. Even if he was the best gift giver ever (he’s not), there’s just no way to compare to what the spotlight of what it felt like growing up, which makes my RSD spike and I wonder if he’s right for me.
Today I just turned 42. I took myself to France by myself and rented a sunbed all day and read. It was exactly what I wanted, and I was so blissed out until I saw my phone had a bunch of messages. And am now worrying about replying and also about when my partner will do something for me -will it be this weekend? Next? Will I be disappointed? Am I expecting too much?
I wish I could just stay in my own little bubble, but I know if I got nothing from anyone I’d be really lonely. It’s like no matter what happens on my birthday, it won’t be the right thing, and I’ll always feel disappointed.
Thanks fam.
Dude, it’s HOT. Have you adjusted your plans because of the heat? I was planning on doing a part of the Greenway but am rethinking it now. I just want a quiet, well-kept lido that isn’t blasting music. If that exists let me know!
Unrelated, I have never been so glad to have AC as a mandatory requirement, but man I wish I had splurged and gotten a hotel as a pool.
Okay gang. Only a few people have been posting to the dailies and I don’t know that I can keep this up with so little interest.
Feel free to chime in with ideas, otherwise - it’s been real. Love an experiment.
Addition: it seems the algo hasn’t been showing the dailies, but it’s only been like 4 days sooo 🤷♀️
Mods, if you read this is there any way to set this up automatically? The early consensus was to have a question for each that people could either answer or just chime in with whatever is on their mind. Just a big group chat with our inner squirrels
Well, it wouldn’t be adhd women I didn’t fuck this up 🤪
Relevant question: what is your best adhd story? Did you leave something on top of your car? Pay your rent twice? Plan to make a daily thread and forget it on day 2?
I’m not going to say that there will be a winner but I’m not NOT going to say it.
Okay first I absolutely cannot take this on solo. If anyone else is excited about a daily thread it’s going to have to be a group effort to start it every day 😅.
Anyway, welcome to the first episode of the ADHD women’s thread!
In a perfect world where you were able to accomplish whatever you wanted, what would be your aspirational plans for the day?
Choose your poison:
- what are you currently ruminating about?
- are you proud of anything you’ve done lately?
- what are you struggling with?
- anything else!
I resonate with this sub more than any other, and I’d love to have daily chats with my people if anyone else was into that.
UPDATE: intake went great!!
We’ve been talking with a local dog boarding place that has accommodations for dogs that don’t socialize with others. we’re dropping off our guy tomorrow for the weekend.
I had a long conversation with the front desk worker this week and explained that he is owner protective, and will come in really spicy and hot but has never bit. I started to overexplain like I always do and they cut me off and kind of laughed and said “yup! We’ve got dogs like that all the time. We got you!”. We found this place because a good friend that works with a dog rescue knows the main guy, who is great with spicy dogs who give a real scary first impression, but really are big wimps once they calm down. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you all how hard it is to have people give them a chance after coming in so hot.
In our last city we had a great boarding situation where he would stay with our trainer at her boarding facility. Since moving, we’ve had two failed boards. One due to his behavior, where the sitter just didn’t have enough authority or experience on his own, and a different one because our pup got so stressed that his gastro issues flared up and we had to pick him up.
I’m really hopeful, but we’re only an hour away if we need to go get him. My partner is dropping him off because I’m way too anxious, and that never helps anything.
Wish us luck! 😬
(Dog tax included)
I’ll start! We moved to a new city and have had a really hard time finding a vet. My guy is owner protective and - at our last city - we used to do Banfield drop offs and it was fine. But since moving I’ve tried to find the “right” vet and be more involved, staying at the appointments and helping him work through it. It was going well until suddenly it wasn’t. After 3 failed visits where they couldn’t see him bc of his reactivity, the vet finally said that if we wanted to keep going to her we’d have to do full sedation. (We had just been doing a very heavy trazodone/gabapentin cocktail but he was pushing through it).
So after 6 months of stressing I decide fuck it, we’re just going to try Banfield drop off again. Something about it being IN a Petsmart keeps him more scared than reactive, which is obviously easier to manage.
So yesterday we have our appointment at this new Banfield. We get there and he has a big reaction. Snarling, lunging, trying to be terrifying so the scary thing goes away. The tech is scared and I can tell she’s close to saying they can’t see him (yes he’s muzzled). I start begging … just please try. Once he’s away from me he’s fine. He’s never bit anyone, he’s just owner protective. Please just take him in the back and let him cool for a couple of ours and he’ll be fine. Please just try.
Once I tear up her empathy kicks in and reluctantly they take him to the back. I’m sweating it all day, expecting them to call and say I have to pick him up, that they can’t see him. But not only does that not happen, but when the vet calls she says he was great! They took the muzzle off, he was no problem. And then when I go to pick him up he prances out without his muzzle and licks me, just like a normal dog.
I teared up again and told the tech just how much it meant to me that they saw him and gave him a chance. The fact that we have now had a successful vet visit here in this new town is such a relief. Taking myself of the equation is clearly the best thing for him. They were also the first vet ever to tell us his muzzle was the wrong size!
I know Banfield is often seen as less-than, but man they were wonderful.
TL;DR - had a successful vet visit and now have a vet that we can go to again!
I guess they are beta testing Ai screening, so if you need Tret you can get a prescription written for free. I just paid a total of $44 for 90 days of .05%, medical fees waived!
Edit: it’s 60g
Wondering if there is an organized group or if this is just a couple of individuals.
