my very own WMATA magic wand

I tried to wave it in the general direction of C53, but it may not have taken.

Not sure what it is, but I was glad to get one at the popup shop today! And I was finally able to get that water bottle with the station stickers.

BUG!

I was a little intimidated by the idea of using these super cute stickers and then messing them up, as I did the last time I tried, a few months back. But this turned out way better, and my shaky hands didn’t totally ruin it!

My costar is a plastic millipede I found in a box of dishes in my storage unit (I had a roommate in grad school who loved leaving plastic bugs in cabinets, and I miss her).

GITD pics were taken last night, pre-cleanup.

kind of obsessed with multicolor magnetics

I’m not sure if there’s a specific term for these. And I know many of them are similar, but I can’t stop buying them, because they are unique enough to me. Magnetizing with the lab spinner, I have found, seems to be the key to getting as many colors as possible popping off with these sorts of polishes.

Took this video next to a west-facing window late this afternoon, sans flash, and am posting a flash-on in the comments.

feels like there might be dino DNA in this polish

Couldn’t decide which of these two LBOH polishes I wanted to try next, so I settled on both. The Nothing Basic magnetic is not a color I typically go for, but I’m absolutely stunned by how much it glows! I can’t stop looking at my own fingers today while I work.

Used the Phoenix on its own on my pinky, and as a topper on the index finger. Video taken with flash on.

penelope luz gets me every time

Like, maybe I need to set up a recurring direct deposit every month because I’m just gonna keep buying every FPM she releases.

It’s disgustingly hot and bright outside today, but I braved the conditions on my roof to make the colors really pop. Also, I am getting better at my finger placement on the Glass Bead Pro, which made these results very exciting.

scurvy patrol!

First of all, did you know that before scurvy was discovered to be a vitamin deficiency, some people thought it could be prevented through intense manual labor, like hauling heavy stuff over a glacier? Yuck.

Opal Theory’s Scurvy Prevention has the best name of any nail polish I own, and once I got these little clay fruits from Amazon, I knew what I needed to do. (Yes, I have not been taking the best care of my cuticles this week, no, I’m not bothered that much by it.)

You can also prevent scurvy by eating seal meat, especially raw (yuck), but citrus is much more appealing.

tried my hand at an ocean look

Did this for the Discord July mani challenge (ocean theme). I was trying to capture that really aquamarine-looking water of certain places in the South Pacific, something I’ve been wanting to attempt for a while (see last pic in slides). As it turns out, I kinda inadvertently did a turquoise stone look, which I’d like to keep in my back pocket for later.

I also *really* wish I had not gone ahead with the QDTC on my left hand before applying Seal Glaze. Pic 4 shows how pleasant the marbling was before that happened. The QDTC did not play nicely with the marbling, and the water-based topcoat I’d ordered hasn’t gotten here yet. By the time I remembered I should’ve used Seal Glaze, I’d already chunked a bunch of them.

Products used:
Nailtiques 2
Fauve, Tinted Gesso base
ILNP, Low Tide (base color)
ILNP, Wavelength; BKL, The Water Remembers; Penelope Luz, Sun and Rain (marbling)
Starrily, Sea Glass (flakies)

in honor of patricia, who deserved to get the food she ordered

Look, I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been craving this since I watched the episode. I had to wait until it wasn’t a weeknight, because there was no way I was doing all that and then getting up for work.

It was all delicious, but the pie (which unfortunately fell off the pie server/cutter as I was plating it), is a particular favorite from a favorite cookbook.

no beetles were harmed in the making of this mani

Full disclosure: I know nothing about bugs, so the name “Ground Beetle” initially made me wonder if we were talking about a specific type of beetle, or if the name was like a joke about literally grinding up beetles for all the shiny colors in this polish. As it turns out, that’s just the name of the family of beetles. (But don’t most bugs live on the ground anyway?)

So, anyway, I was PUMPED to get a bottle of this in last month’s HHC overstock. What color is this polish? It’s ALL THE COLORS.

ludicrously sparkly

Got this one from May PPU, and it may officially be the shiniest polish I own. I briefly considered doing a photo shoot with the blue Sour Patch Kids (that I obviously went out and got after painting these), but I couldn’t stand around filming that. That’s how you get ants.

camera-shy penelope luz mani

I say “camera shy” because I haven’t been able to get a video that doesn’t show all my brushstrokes and topcoat shrinkage, but in real life you can hardly see the problems.

Trying not to let it irk me too much, since I have so many new shinies to try from my HHC and PPU hauls, and since I change my polish almost every 24-48 hours regardless.

Stuff:
Nailtiques 2
Fauve, Tinted Gesso base
Penelope Luz, Pretty Little
Penelope Luz, So Tiny
Jen & Berries, Pole Position

ETA: I swear to God the video does not look washed out like this on my phone, why is this happening?

screaming/crying/etc

May PPU got here today, which means my animal crackers thermal got here! Bought a bag of cookies just for a photo shoot (which I was too excited about to even properly clean up my edges), too, and I’m surprised that I still like the taste of them as much as I do.

I also saw someone here or on Discord saying that they should have used a water based topcoat to keep the white thermal from looking too pink, but I don’t have one of those, so I tried Seal Glaze instead. Oh whale, this polish is making my week already regardless!

rainbow glass

Is there a specific (color?) term for those kinda grey, glassy magnetics like this? Because I haven’t met one I don’t like (see also: Lagoon Nebula, Astral Glass, Icarus, etc.).

This actually looks a bit darker purple without the flash on, but capturing the shiny glitter was more important to me.

feeling like the crab from moana

Don’t even have any commentary or jokes about it, it’s just so goddamn shiny that I took about 80 videos of it today.

Products used:
Nailtiques 2
Fauve, Tinted Gesso base
Holy Order of Perpetual Lacquer, Aether (magnetized glass bead style with lab spinner + cat eye style on accent nails with bar)
Jen & Berries, Champagne Spray (cat eye style on accent nails, accidentally got a very thick coat on the middle nail)
J&B, Pole Position (all nails)
HOPL, Abendrot (this is the culprit of much of the shininess)
HOPL, Nyctophilia

[US] [ISO] fauve hydrangeas + haunted polish rituoil

Basically, what the title says. I’m looking for Fauve’s Hydrangeas, as well as the Haunted oil in either Lait to Rest OR Gossamer Skin. Prefer a mostly full bottle of the oil, because I’ve seen others have success with this!

Thanks in advance for looking!

oh my god y’all

I love how glowy the Opal Theory GITDs are! And I was super pumped to try three polishes from two of the hauls I received this week.

For reference, first photo taken in the closet with the light off and the door cracked, third in my bedroom in low light, fifth in the closet with the door totally shut.

Products used:

celebrating my thermal season

My hands run way too cold to do “thermal season” during the colder months like many folks seem to do around here. But my thermal season is finally consistently here, and I’ve been especially enamored with all the ones I’ve been buying from Apocalypse.

Today, I’m wearing their “Alien” thermal, topped with HOPL’s Eldritch (which has glow-in-the-dark stars and green pencil shavings!). Over the weekend, I wore “Well, Butter My Croissant,” topped with Wicked Lacquer’s mystery spring glitter topper from LBOH.

(Honestly, thermal + fun topper is my favorite mani combo. Easy application and fun results!)

Products used for both manicures:
Nailtiques 2
Fauve, Tinted Gesso Base
2 coats of relevant Apocalypse thermal
1 coat Cracked QDTC
1-2 coats of relevant topper
1 more coat QDTC
