Biotech gone feral

I have this idea for a world. It's a post apocalyptic one, but where they focused on biotechnology. And after the apocalypse these biotech creations escaped their confines and spread and mutated.

Here's a few ideas on what could be found on this world:

  • Animals born with advertisements in their fur/feathers etc.
  • Jellyfish that glow in multiple colours, wich they can flash to disorient prey
  • Snails that communicate via radio waves.
  • Trees that grow kittens as fruit.
  • Trees that connect roots to form a internet.
  • Plants that grow brain-like structures

Any other ideas what biotech gone feral might look like?

Free Spells from the Infosphere

Here's an idea: You can get all kinds of spells and designs for magic items from the infosphere for free. Catch is that these tend to be people's hobby projects, so they come with all kinds of side effects.

  • The spell has a chance of summoning gremlins with every use.
  • The spell leaves the caster utterly drenched. The designer was aquatic, so they never noticed.
  • A magic item that allows the user to fly, but only works on planets with a certain gravity.
  • a spell that allows the caster to manipulate metal, but only if they're holding a potato in the other hand.

Infinity Train in Ravenloft

Infinity Train is an animated series about people getting stuck on the titular train and they can only leave when they've learned certain lessons and become better people.

My idea for putting the train into Ravenloft is that the train is an enemy of the Dark Powers. It picks up people who might become Darklords and exposes them to tests and challenges in order to make them better people.

The train itself would be very strange. I'm drawing on things like the weirder desriptions of angels and bodhisattva. Nobody sees the same thing when looking at the train: some see a train, others a series of carts lashed together, a giant metal snake etc.

Idea for a Giants Domain

There's a french comic by Hubert Boulard called the Ogre Gods. It's about a clan of giants ruling an isolated kingdom. It has a lot of potential as a domain.

  • Because there are no other giants, the clan has to breed with itself. As a result the giants are becoming more inbred, smaller, dumber, uglier etc with every generation.
  • The giants like to eat humans, so there's an entire farm dedicated to providing human meat for their tables.
  • Human nobles do a lot of the work in ruling, but are often at risk of being squashed and eaten if they annoy a giant too much.
  • Taking bits and pieces of dead giants, like hair and teeth, and selling them as relics is a common source of income for nobles.
  • There's one area the giants don't go. The people there have to make blood sacrifice to protect themselves from the bloodsucking forest.

My theory on Tetia

Tetia has been shown with a royalty motief. Now what could that mean?

The apprentices of Qifrey are social outcasts for one reason or another. So there's a reason other witches don't want to associate with Tetia.

Now Agott comes from a high ranking witch family, while Coco is an outsider who came to know magic. But what we haven't seen is someone who straddles the line between witches and the unknowing.

My theory is that Tetia is the child of a witch and an unknowing royal. This while not illegal would still be a huge breach of witch custom, while her being a royal bastard means she won't get acceptance from the other side of her family.

Scifi Animism

I'm homebrewing a world that is an futuristic animistic world. I'm wondering if people here have some idea of what that would look like?

Some of my ideas:

  • The best power armor gets it's own kami spirit to help maintain/control it.
  • Leshy are used in the rural areas for help with farming and with terraforming the moon.
  • Green Men protect the rural areas and are worshipped to a greater degree.
  • There will be less great temples, but lots of little shrines.
  • Yaoguai and Tsukumogami make up a known portion of the populace
  • The Infosphere is inhabited by spirits.
